I'm getting a lamp driver error on my Sony

First I would change out the lamp. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4168009-change_lamp_in_dlp_projection_tv for help with this. If the problem persists you probably have a bad lamp ballast. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7807925-ballast_diagnosis_replacement_in_lcd for help with this.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Power standby is flashing after power outage. the

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.
Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

If i turn on tv

Hi, there are numerous flashing codes for these sets so I included a web page dedicated to the Sony flashing light and you can look the forum over and try and pinpoint the number of flashes and the related causes. I also included the cuase for the 6 blinks and this can be fixed if this is the only issue.
Usually, the problem resulting in 6 blinks, pause, 6 blinks, etc. is a defective thermal "fuse", which is actually a bimetalic temperature switch. You may find the "KDF55WF655 6 blinks/KDF42WE655, KDF50WE655, KDF55WF655, KDF55XS955, KDF60WF655, KDF60XS955" information package of value. See the "Frequently Asked Question for Sony Products" forum "Television Troubleshooting Infromation Packages" thread for more information.
Once you get to this site request the troubleshooting package. It has step by step on how to replace the thermal fuse and where to get the parts.
I believe this fuse is right next to the light housing

I have a samsung dlp

It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30 seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire

Sony grand wega 60 inch

Hi,

Yes it is a fan or a excessive heat build up on the set. The fan connector must be check, pull-out and then re-insert to the board and ensure its connection. If the symptoms still persist, observe which fan does not spin upon powering on the unit and then replace it with new one. Avoid also an obstruction from the vent, clean it from dust build-up as much as possible to have a proper circulation of the air inside.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

We suddenly have a yellow

I have a 2006 SXRD 50" TV. The same thing happened to me as the TV warmed I would get this yellowish tint that started to fill my entire screen. This is due to a bad optic block. Sony actually had a recall on this and was able to get a new one and have it installed. Here is a link explaining what it is. You might still be able to get a new optic block if your model number is affected.

Sony KDF-42 WE655 TV.

You may have a bad ballast. Check to see if your lamp is lighting up through the back of your T.V. prior to the picture coming on. If it has done this since you bought it, it's probably the just the way the T.V. was designed. If it still comes on every time, it could also be a power supply issue, but nothing to stress about.
