Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Our Sony Wega tv shuts
Look for pauses between the blinks. Like 9 blinks and a 1 second pause, 5 blinks and a 1 second pause etc., and let me know. Error code diagnostics will be multiple series of blinks
Tv picture and sound go off and on every 40 seconds green light stays on
The power supply or part of it can be going in to protect mode because something is failing causing improper loading. This can even be the power supply itself. The only way to know is to try the different modules in the set. Once you get to the module that is failing, you leave the new on installed. This is how these sets are serviced. It is a similar approach to how computers are serviced.
A blue semi-circular hue on the bottom left of the screen
9 times out of 10 the Blue Polarizer heats up and discolors which causes that problem, all projector's have the same issue and have for years. My professional recommendation is get in touch with Sony, they have been extending the warranty's for this issue. If they won't the have a servicer replace the light engine of which is not cheap.
Thermal fuse replacement
If instructions were not included---there is a two pin plug almost dead center in the harness at the rear---fuse is located at front near bottom of plastic housing for lamp--have to remove some things in back of it to get to it----the wires are routed in that frame of plastic. If you can locate the plug inline between the fuse and the power supply you can unplug it and test across the two wires going to the fuse-----I have been known to jumper the other two wires going to power supply and set should come on----other than that which is not suggested for long term use you have to get at the suspect fuse and it should have come with a two wire plug at the end of it that connects to the plug going to the power supply.Let me know if questions----I got 3 of these sets at one time(free) that were exchanged that had this problem (fuses had not been replaced) Sony knows about this which is why replacement looks different---in all cases I have seen there was no short causing this, just a design flaw on the part of the Maker.
