This model along with some others right before and after it had two problems.1. Bad picture tubes (3: red, green, and blue) and if set was flashing or going bright red, green or blue that may be your problem.2. Briefly: the set when turned on and has sound but the power led is blinking indicates something related to the tubes is the problem.The set monitors at turn on voltages going to the three tubes, 220 volts, 6.3 heater voltage and some other voltages and signals---if any are missing the set "blanks" or turns off the tubes.Loss of deflection from the vertical or Horizontal circuits can also cause this.Someone with a schematic would have to monitor voltages at turn on to see if one is missing.Not a job for a unskilled person to try---Google the model number and you will see this model had problems like this from day one----I saw a few where turning set on and then off and back on allowed the set to work---there is a factory bulletin for fixing that----and also a few would function if unplugged for several hours and then turned on cold---not a cure but indicates the tubes are not likely the problem.If unplugging allows it to come on look to see if it has the on screen error buffer---not all models have but the way to see is with set off hit display, 5, vol down, and power.If it has it a box will appear in the middle of the screen with up to 6 items listed like AKB, B+, ETC.TO THE RIGHT OF THESE ITEMS EACH SHOULD HAVE A zero, any number indicates the area of the problem.AKB (auto kine bias) is most common---if for example a number 9 (instead of a zero) is found to the right of AKB it means the set has detected the error 9 times.It is normal for the light to blink for the first 10-15 seconds as the set checks for the voltages etc that must be present----if it fails the set just does not come on with a picture and shuts down.SD TECH

Generally Tv screens use three different colours to make the picture, and if one or two of these colours don't show you will see the picture but in specially one colour (like looking through a red filter in your case).If you are using an input into the TV (DVR or Games console etc) then I would firstly move the cable around in the back of the TV and the console to see if anything changes or flickers in and out of being correct. If this does happen I would recommend buying a new cable to fulfil the purpose. If this does not happen and you are still seeing red then there may be an issue with the connection inside the back of your TV, this shouldn't be a very expensive issue to fix as you are still getting a picture but I would recommend getting a specialist to check it out if you are not confident in fixing this manually.Thirdly and most unlikely is the settings inside the TV have changed, some TV's like yours will allow you to change colour settings on the screen. I would go into the menu and find the section that allows you to change the colours and have a check to see if any of the settings seem off.

HelloThe power supply regulatior board of your tv has the fault. It is a repairable fault. If you come over to me by buying one among my Sony services published on Fixya or Google, I can give you steps to repair this fault, along with its repair manual. I've its full repair manual, which describes all details to repair, having so many illustrations shows from open the set to shut it after repair. So many photographs about the internal fittings and wiring, tips to repair etc: are well described in it, as a person who have a basic knoledge in elelctronics can do the work successfully. Moreover, I too can give you instrictions to repair. No part of the repair manual can be uploaded by this window, as it does not allow me to do so. OK.

There are two screws that hold the spealer panel on ( they have plastic plugs covering the two screws. Then the screen frame will have some screws along its bottom edge remove those then grab the screen frame on each side and slide upwards to disengage the screen Be careful to unplkug the wires from the screen frame before you remove the screen frame completely so as to not damage the wires.

HelloIt seems that the blue video output of your rear projection TV is not working at all. Check the blue video output control board for any loose solderings. It is quite normal that the solderings of this board to get loose contacted, as most of the components in this board will heat up while working. Repeated heating and cooling may make solder points of the components that heats up will get loose contacted.The video output section board can be located at the back sider of the neck of the colour guns. It will be attached to the colour guns. The board along with it connecting socket can be pulled out from the neck of the colour gun. Locate the blue gun, and pull out the board from it out. It will be very difficult to locate the exact loose solder points, becuse sometimes they will be too small to ***** eye. So do resolder most of the suspected solder points by applying a little more solder; without making any solder bridge short in between close solder terminals. You should have a concept of soldering. OK.

does the power indicator blink when it shuts down? If so let me know the number of blinks as thats a error code indicating which circuit has the issue.

I had the same problem with my sony KP-57ws500 rear projection tv and thanks to the thread I fixed it in 10 minutes. At first I thought it was a white curved line but then after a closer look it was a very light green curved line. To solve this problem all you need is a flat and phillips screwdriver. Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover. The two screws at the bottom are the only screws and you just have to wiggle the facing off by pulling out and down. You will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Now remove the screws on the fiber board and pull it off.

You should see 6 adjustments screws. on the top for is focus, do not touch those.
Below the focus adjustments are the Red, Green, and Blue. The adjustment is slight so turn the correct color slowly and don't push hard on the screw. I had to turn the green to the left to get the lines to disappear and it was only about a 1/32 of a turn. Very very slight. Good Luck.

Thats a convergence issue. Installing the sony type1 convergence repair kit should solve the issue. The kit contains both ICs the 8 associated pico fuses and some 4.7 ohm resistors plus the CD with detailed repair instructions. The kit is available from www.tvrepairworld.com

That model uses three CRTs ( Picture Tubes) one red, one green and one blue. You can get the replacment CRTs from www.tvrepairworld.com

The large red wire gets pushed in then turned about 90Degrees and it pops right out of the HV splitter. The smaller red wire gets traced back up front and unplugged from the focus block behind the speaker grille.

The tv problems is call a convergence picture problems,it is just starting to developing.This problems when it is fully developing into a convergence picture problems to the tv eventually.Tv will develope into a colors lines R,G,B mis alignments,have a colors shadow pictures or into a picture 3D look alike.Eventually the tv convergence board will dies,have to have it parts replaced like 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.This problems the tvs shops will cost u like $300-350 for parts and lobors.

sounds like the red CRT has a short in the cathode very famous for that model since its on of the RA6 chassis

The safest and best thing you should do it to buy new tv instead of investing money on this older tv.
