Sony model kp-51ws500

You have all three projection tubes that are failing. This was a common issue for this year. Depending on serial number 2 of the 3 CRT's (green and blue) are no longer available. They will have to be pulled and rebuilt.

What is a swirtching regulator

A switching regulator is a bit of electronic circuitry that regulates the voltage conversion on a switching power supply, Modern TV sets have switching powers supplies that converts the 120V AC to DC voltages that drives the circuits. You may have to replace the power supply.

Blue convergence out of line

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets. Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEMProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.1d5e2cf.jpgff5b9f6.jpg7deade1.jpgHere is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence. You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem. Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution47a7bc4.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTIONYou will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.comTheir kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video. Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc. BEFORE7c190d8.jpgSet after fluid change. Notice how bright the colors are now. Everthing looks crisp and sharp again. AFTERa798d23.jpg724bcba.pngSolution #2 - CRT FLUID FIXWhat you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

My sony KP-51WS500 needs reset. I hit a button on the remote and my picture went off. I started pushing buttons like an idiot trying to get the stations back and in the process it messed my picture up

It is possible that you messed up the convergance of the projector lamps on this TV. Try the convergance setup to see if this helps.

Colours are seperated

There is a good chance the IC's that control the convergence are blown. I will do the best I can to describe them since I don't quite remember where they are on this set. They are a pair of identical chips which I believe are on the main board on this set. They are attached to rather large heat sinks and they have STK-###-### written on them. The # indicating an actual #. For example, STK-192-110. If you decide to change these yourself please keep in mind, TV's produce very high voltage and sometimes can retain it even when the set is unplugged. (anything associated with the thick red wires) Also make sure you use new heat sink grease which you can usually get at the same place you buy the chips. I was able to change mine however I had to remove the chassis. Please keep in mind that this solution is based past encounters with convergence issues and doesn't guarantee this is the same problem. Let me know what you decide, hope this helps.

When i turn the tv on it attempts to go on but then you can hear the on/off switch a second time and it doesn't turn on

Good day!!!!That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..1. Open the back cover of your TV.2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter
