Toshiba PDR-3330 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
PNY 2GB memory card
I have the same camera and bought a 4GB PNY SD card and it wouldn't work, so I read the manual :) The manual says, "SD Memory Cards having the following storage capacity can be used on your camera (Toshiba PDR-3330):
8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, and 256MB"
Hope this helps! -Kim
I have a Toshiba $GB
Your main problem is that you are trying to use a 4GB SDHC card in an approximately 8 year old camera which was only designed to accept a maximum 512MB SD card and which only worked reliably with 256MB SD cards. When your camera was designed, 128MB cards were the largest size available and so hardware testing only went up that far.
SDHC cards use a different memory structure to SD cards and older devices cannot use them even though they will fit in the slot. As it's a hardware limitation there is no firmware update option.
Your only fix is to obtain the correct type and capacity of SD card or to replace your camera with one which accepts SDHC cards.
I
hope you manage to use this information to fix your problem or at
least that it assists you to choose your next course of action.

PDR 3330 WILL NOT TURN ON
Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera
which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the
camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with
a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush,
steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen
into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of
the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears
the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have
a problem that requires professional repair.
Lost memory card
Why can't you use a different card? Just put it in and format the new card in the camera.

Sorry no one has gotten to you sooner. Your manual mentions this and this is what it says to do:
Turn the camera on and move the lens cover switch to the open. Then your camera should operate normally. Let me know if that helps.

Better Focus
There are several factors that can contribute to getting better focus and improved results.
1. Auto Focus / Auto Exposure lock. Press the shutter button down HALF WAY. The camera will attempt to adjust exposure to the current lighting environment for maximum benefit. Then the camera will automatically correct the focus based on objects in the center of the display. This process usually takes about two to three seconds.
2. Be sure not to cover the sensor on the front of the camera with your finger. This will disable the automatic focus and exposure controls.
3. Only us the MACRO MODE for CLOSE-UP photography. Be sure to use MACRO MODE if you are taking pictures of an object at less than six inches away. Be sure not to use Macro Mode for Normal Photography. Using MACRO MODE improperly will result in poor focus (also known as 'fuzzy pictures').
Optical / Digital Zoom
Press the "T" for telephoto and get closer to the subject. Optical telephoto zoom is like using a telescope to get closer to the subject before taking the picture. With optical Telephoto zoom you can maintain the full resolution and quality.
After you have used all of the optical Telephoto range, the camera will continue to enhance the image with Digital Zoom. This enhances the image inside the camera by reducing the resolution and expanding fewer pixels to fill the same image space.
Use the "W" Wide-angle button to back-up away from the subject or get a bigger area into your picture.
You can even ZOOM IN on a picture in the playback mode for a better look at the details. Turn the Mode Dial to Playback, then press the "T". Use the Enter button to move around the display area.
Press the middle of the ENTER KEY to see your images in thumbnail view and / or scroll through several images at one time to find a specific / special image quickly.
Using Flash
The Flash is useful up to approximately six feet, after which distance the light is less effective. The Flash is good for close subjects in low light.
The Flash is not good to use when taking pictures in large rooms with low light or night / evening scenes. When the Flash is used, the shutter speed is automatically faster to compensate for the light from the flash. This means less natural light through the lens. This can cause dark images in large rooms or evening scenes. In this case, TURN OFF THE FLASH and allow the shutter speed to automatically slow down to adjust for natural light. Your images will be more bright. Be careful, slower shutter also means more potential for blur from motion by you or your subjects.
Using the Remote Control
With the camera turned ON, Press the TIMER button and select two or ten seconds. The camera will remain ON and you can use the REMOTE CONTROL to take pictures or start recording AVI Movies. You do not have to reset the camera, just press the remote control again to continue taking several images. Now you can be a part of the action and pictures.
Erase Images
Press the trashcan button to erase a single image. Press and HOLD the trashcan button for the option to erase many images, all images, or to format the SD Card. It is good to Format the SD Cad from time to time after downloading the images to clear all residual memory files (even if you do not see them).
Choosing Batteries
Your camera requires four AA size batteries. There are several factors that contribute to battery life:
NiMH: This is the best solution for enjoyment and cost savings. NiMH batteries typically last longer per charge than the average alkaline batteries. NiMH batteries are rechargeable batteries, so they can be used several times and thereby reduce the expense of continually purchasing new batteries. NiMH batteries are typically sold with a power adapter for charging. The life of these batteries can often be determined by the mAh rating, the higher the mAh rating on the battery, the longer that they will last. NiMH batteries do not have the memory effect associated with NiCd batteries, which means that these batteries can be recharged at any time and at your convenience (you do not have to wait for the batteries to completely drain between charges).
Lithium: Energizer has introduced a new series of Lithium batteries that provide optimum performance and long life for disposable AA size batteries. Laboratory studies shows that Lithium batteries last more than three times as long as standard Alkaline batteries. This means many more hours of fun and satisfaction with your digital camera. These lithium batteries are not rechargeable, they are long lasting.
Alkaline: Using the LCD display, downloading images, playback, zoom and flash all require some battery power to operate and may decrease the number of shots per set of batteries. Performance may also vary based on the Alkaline batteries selected. To significantly increase battery life, be sure to turn off the LCD when it is not in use. The LCD consumes the most amount of battery power. The benefit of being able to use alkaline batteries is that you can find then almost anywhere if needed.
Manganese: If you are using manganese batteries, the typical battery life will be about 2 - 5 shots. Then the camera will indicate that battery power is low and may shut-down. To avoid this experience, use either Alkaline or NiMH batteries.
Optimum Solution: Use a set of NiMH batteries for longer use and to reduce the expense of continually buying new batteries. It may also be a good idea to keep a spare set of NiMH batteries for other devices that require AA size batteries on a regular basis. Use AA Alkaline batteries when the NiMH batteries need to be recharged and you want to continue enjoying the use of your camera.
