Hi
I had the same problem with one of my TV's and I know this may sound daft, but mine was literally a signal problem, got a booster, re-tuned the DVB tuner, hey presto.
You might not be so lucky, and may have an aerial issue, in which case, that's a job for the aerial chap, which incidentally I also had to have sorted.
If the Standby light is blinking at the front panel of the TV, it seems that there is an internal malfunction occurred in the TV. I will forward a link to a page where you can get more information and troubleshooting steps for this issue.
You will need to buy a digital converter box!
You can get one online or at a wal-mart or radio shack!

It sounds like the TV is in overscan mode, thus chopping off part of the screen. Check your manual to see how you can change this mode. The mode also might be in 'Zoom', thus chopping off part of your picture
are you able to see the picture in a dark room ? does it appear bright enough then ? if so the lights behind your screen have dimmed or gone out completely. this may just be the power supply for the lights or your lcd panel may need to be replaced
yes you will. either install an outside antenna or get a good amplified indoor antenna. try your old antenna first, but when your picture freezes or it says something like " weak signal " you will need that new antenna
You can connect the RCA plugs to the speakers. But, as for using the red/white Audio outputs you may need an amplifier, those connections are used when going into a dvd or vcr that boosts the signal in their own environment. If you have a connection for headphones on the TV you might have better luck there for the speakers.
This is really easy. A pair of simple bookshelf speakers will do nicely. Simple speaker wire can be run to them, to extend whatever cable they have. If it's only screw terminals they have, so much the better.
You'll have to attach RCA plugs to the ends going to the TV, but that's easy.
Deacon J, You will need a digital converter box OR high definition tuner for the transition. What's the difference? A converter box will only output a standard definition signal, either on channel 3 or by composite or S video cables. A high definition tuner will allow you to watch the new digital broadcasts in hi-def, assuming they are transmitted in hi definition. The converter boxes are the cheaper option and you can get a coupon from the government for a $40 rebate on the box, but I would opt for the hi-def tuner fo the better picture quality.CNET has a good write up on the transition here: http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108580-3.html I did some looking and about the cheapest hi-def tuner I could find was $150, which is 3 times what a converter box would cost. I would expect the cost to fall on the tuners over time. Perhaps a converter box may be a good solution until the prices fall, if they do. The problem is that not many companies are making the tuners, as most TV's already have a hi-def tuner built in, so there isn't a big market for the add-on tuners. I hope this answers your questions.
If you are on cable or satalight you will be fine. If you are still using an antana you will need to get a converter box to watch tv. You can also go here to get more answers. http://www.dtvanswers.com/
