Trying to connect converter box

There are two ways to connect it. You can connect it to the rf connector with a coax (like a water hose) cable or with an RCA (yellow, white, red [preferred method]) cable. Then depending on which one of the choices you made you'll have to switch the television over using the TV/Video button. Before you press that button though make sure you have the converter box plugged in and turned on so you'll see it's screen when you're flipping video inputs. If you choose the rf connector method you will have to be on channel 3. You'll be able to tell when you get to the fuzzy screen where you can press 03 to turn to channel 3. If you chose the RCA method then you'll have to choose video 1 or video 2 etc. whichever one you connected the cables to.

I turn my sony trinitron off. when turn it back on

I HOPE AFTER FEW MINS OR HOURS OR DAYS when your TV gets on & picture comes then everything works normally atleast for few mins...then following is the situation.......after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to CRT TUBE - TV TUBE ) becomes weak - then 1 of the indication is ....it takes few mins ( in your case few hrs or days ---- very rare case ) for picture to appear...........so solution is EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching TV ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, [email protected]) ----- here EHT's price will be around US $ 10 & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another US $ 12 as sevice charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact TV service engineer or sony service centre ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily.....

Color recently changed and I cannot get it

Please do the following steps:

  1. Turn on the television.
  2. Please wait approximately 40 seconds for your TV to completely start up.
  3. On the TV remote control, press and hold the UP ARROW button.
  4. While holding the UP ARROW button, press and release the POWER button on the TV set. (The button may be on the front, top or side of the TV.) NOTE: The TV may turn off and then back on.
  5. Release the UP ARROW button.
If the issue does not resolve, please follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.

Hi Nestor,
I've suspect that your Flyback Transformer is shorted this is based on my experienced on a lot of Sony tv, that's the common reason why H-out transistor keeps blowing. Before replacing the FBT you should re-solder around it, check the B+ for high voltage. Check the capacitor around.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

Hi,
Your vetical ouput deflection is gone that's why it will not power up. This is commonly caused of shorted vertical output IC. This is not DIY because the FF is still to be consider :
1. Fusible resistor in line with the supply of vertical output IC.
2. Yoke winding might be open.
3. No vertical output from the jungle IC.
I've advice you to send it to the nearest Sony service center in your area.
Hope it may help you.

ONE: Unplug it for at least 4 hours. That is what we call a hard reset.

TWO: If the hard reset does not help, then it will need further diagnostics.

The following bulletin may be of help in your learning about what is going on. Please refer to it below. Then let me know if you need further assistance.

Have a great day,

Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If
the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the
problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no
action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks
(depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3
seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the
number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for
each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power
section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should
show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---
No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held
high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this
diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is
corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen.
Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5,
volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

The tv has a high voltage problem, and the probable cause is the flyback transformer has become defective, it's job is to generate the high voltage to energize the picture tube and along with the video circuits produces a picture. The repair costs will run high and I suggest an estimate.

The volume comes on when you turn it on then goes

This is a classic switchmode power supply, has sensed a severe potential problem, and is shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free. There are many, many, many reasons that display this symptom, one must work through the troubleshooting steps to isolate and identify, the Cause and repair that and any damage done

When we turn tv on,it will click right off,and

Hi. I see this type of problem alot, and this seems to always be the problem.

The vast majority of these are due to capacitors either built itno the power supply, or on the main circuit board.
These capacitors work like a booster battery, giving a sudden charge of electricity all at once, that way it energizes the t.v..
These capacitors seem tro be failing alot, probably due to the fact that alot are manufactured in countries where quality standards aren't what they would be if they had been made here in the U.S.

Good quality capacitors should last around 30 years or so, before failure, however, alot of the are only lasting around 1/3 of that time.

Some are only lasting a couple of years, some are lasting 8-10, but all of them are not lasting to their life expectancy.

I would look at your circuit boards, and look for swollen or exploded capacitors.
If they are exploded, they will look like an exploded battery, where it splits down the side.

This is most likely the condition here.

As for repairing, good quality capacitors are not cheap, and can be the difference between getting it repaired and just buying a new t.v.

I hope this is what you were wanting to know.
