My wega 36" turns on but the screen turns black

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

I have a tip/tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and Good luck.

My sony wega kv-36 tries

The Power/High Voltage board is the main cause of this. Most of these boards must be sent to Sony to be refurbished because Sony no longer manufactures the board.

Remote control codes of sony

Hello

Three digit universal remote control codes for Sony are:-

002/ 006/ 071/ 128

Four digit universal remote control codes for Sony are:-

0128 0013 0002 0071 0380 Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand.
Code Search If after trying "Direct Code Entry" your device does not respond, or if your brand is not listed, try doing a search of the code library for your code by following these steps.
  1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.
  2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  3. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks once, then stays on.
  4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  5. Press and release MUTE to install the code. The indicator light goes off.
Most users will want to store VCR codes under the VCR button, Cable codes under CBL, etc. If you want to store a VCR code under CBL, etc., first follow the procedure for Direct Code Entry and press CBL in step 2 of Direct Code Entry, then enter ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then follow the steps above for Code Search. OK.

Instructions
  1. 1 Make sure the power cord is properly plugged into a wall outlet if your TV is not powering on.
  2. 2 Make sure the video and audio cables connecting your TV to external devices are secure if you are experiencing a fuzzy picture or no picture.
  3. 3 Reset the parental password if you forgot the password and are unable to view certain programs. To do this, click "Menu" on your remote control and use the arrow keys to select "Parental Controls." Enter the master password, which is "4357" to reset the password.

  8. 8 Power cycle your Sony Wega if it's frozen or not responding to your remote control. Unplug the power cord and wait a few seconds. Plug the power cord back in.

Tv wont come on but

You either have problems in the power supply or the horizontal output transistor and maybe flyback transformer have failed. If your not familiar with electronic using a multi-meter it will be near impossible to isolate which area has the problem..

Repairs on those tv vary by location but a reasonable average would be 90-120 on the low side and 150-180 if the flyback has failed.

Sorry for the bad news.. Wish I could have said unplug it for 5 minutes and say a couple of chants and walla its fixed..

Good Luck

TV won't turn on at all. It doesn't click at all

Hi,

You are correct, the switch would still click even if something major had failed inside the TV. There is a small microswitch inside the TV directly behind the on/off button. The microswitch can break or get stuck and there is usually no way of fixing it without taking the back off the TV. You could try repeatedly pressing the on/off switch rapidly as this can (very) occasionally unstick it, but it's probably broken.

This isn't generally a user replaceable part as the actual switch is soldered to the PCB. I would take it to a TV repair shop, but if you are planning to remove the back of the TV, make sure it's unplugged and don't open it until the power has been off for at least half an hour as you can still get a considerable residual current shock!

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

You just count the number of blinks of the standby light before it goes out to green. In sony sets this blinking count ic critical for us to locate the faulty stage. You just count it after switch it Off by Power switch and Switch it On by the power switch at the front of the TV, for at least three or four times, and make sure abut the number of blinks, and report it to me. What dose it mean when the standby light flashing?

Hello
In Sony TVs, number of blinks of the standby light denotes some problems inside the circuit board of that TV. The number differes with the section where the fault is. According to the number of blinks, we can reach to fault point easly. Just count the number of blinks, with TV switch On-Off with its front panel switch, not by the remote control. Keep this in mind. Ok.

Color setting for Sony XBR Trinitron 36" any

Hello
I thinks that you need to set its colour and other parameters, and posted this problem. If so there is adjustment at the first "Menu" option itself.
Press "Menu" button on your TVs remote control. You will see "Video" function as first selection on the screen. Use "Prog Up or Prog Down" keys to select and hilight the desired parameter. Use "Vol up or Vol down" keys to change it as your taste. That is all.
Normally the "Contrast should be more that 55% to 60% of its total value to get a clear and vivid picture. Colour and brightness are according your individual taste. Ok

If you wants to reset your TV to factory settings,
Turn on the TV.
Hold down "Reset" button on your remote handset and keep it pressed.
Press and release the power button on your TV front panel. the TV will turn itself off.
Release the "Reset key". Ok
