Images cut off on top and bottom of screen

classic example of the failure of the high voltage circuit. If you have a Samsung like mine, the power supply has a capacitor (other tv has more than one capacitor) and this capacitor is failing to maintain the 400 volts needed to drive the video circuit/card.

Broken mirror for panasonic tv model pt47wx54j

A regular mirror will not work correctly---best bet is Google the model number with "mirror" as some sell mirrors and if that fails call Panasonic to see if available, part number, cost and where to order it.

I can't adjust my green

Hi,
If the green color can't be align anymore in the convergence alignment through the menu, this is an indication of faulty convergence board inside. Your unit used STK-392-110 as convergence chip(IC) mounted in the heat sink. Replaced this IC and some of the resistors around to have a best picture again. You may do-it-yourself if you have a knowledge in soldering and disoldering technique. Just prepare some tools and I will give you the link to order online for convergence repair kit to save some hundreds of dollar for service fee alone. Click the link below to view how much it will cost.
Convergence Repair Kit
STK-392-110
6.8ohms/1watt resistor
But before you make an order for parts, check first the board for bad solder joints(cracked/dried/cold solder) because it will do the same symptoms. Re-solder as much as possible.
If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a qualified tv technician to do the job for you.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

ll projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My tv has a arching

Convergence problems. If they can't be fixed from the setting on the menu then the convergence board's IC's are faulty and must be replaced. This is a job for someone who has some electronics experience.

Red power indicator flashes six times

With this symptom, it is impossible to tell what the exact "Cause" of this symptom is. The LED's do not tell us what is wrong, sometimes it may indicate the "Area" in your case it is the X board. BUT thats NOT where the "Fault is" thats just the part that is affected. These days unlike the "Old" analogue days it just isn't realistically possible to fix anything but the most basic of problems with todays sophisticated units. This is quite apart from the Safety aspect, any unit that can cause a firs or have an explosion, or both, is NOT to be treated lightly, and and the repairer, of the unit is legally responsible, another thing to think about. Also, one must have tools, a Multimeter, a soldering iron, a deslodering iron, an oscilloscope, a signal tracer, tools, and most important of all, a Service Manual, without which, there is no way to even begin to understand and fix it, and more importantly Program it, AFTER it has been fixed. As these days a TV, is a PC, a Tuner, and an HDTV Monitor, and more, all in one. So, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" form the manufacturers recommended service center, I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. you see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else. Anyway thats my 10c worth.

47in dlp tv that turns on then shuts back off

The lamp may be bad or a fan has stopped running. Remove your lamp and see if it's shattered or dark and gray in the center. Also your lamp timer could have reached it's limit. check your manual to see how you can reset the timer only if the lamp looks clear.

Hi, we just moved the tv from one room to another

Sounds like you have bad solder connections at your convergence ic's.These are large amplifier ic's mounted on large heat sinks. These ic's run very hot and can cause faulty connections at the solder joints.Try resoldering ,if this doesn't fix it you will need to replace them and any surrounding resistors that have opened.

Panasonic PT-47X54J Not working

I can't tell you how to fix this set, but I can tell you that its not a "lamp" issue as this doesn't have a lamp. Its a 3 picture tube projection TV. the three tubes are in a red green blue format, and average about $175 for each one, not including the labor to install them. your problem, may not be the tube, but just a power supply problem, but there is a chance it is.

I HAVE A BLUE ARC AT THE BOTTOM OF MY SCREEN

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Green and purple ghosts

Try to reset first if nothing happens we proceed another solution;

Resetting the TV

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can saved time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet for 3 - 4 hours.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

Sylvania Plasma 6842 PF M

The condition of your TV called power supply overcurrent shutdown. The TV is going into a protection mode to prevent further circuit damage. That's why it will not turn on or not powering up. I would concentrate on the power supply section board. Bad regulation of the incoming voltage could caused this issue although, there is a capacitor across the incoming line and nuetral.Maybe its leak or dry up and cause the problems, change it out with one of identical rating .I would probably also check the flyback circuit and flyback transformer although now you are getting into dangerous area, especially if you have no electronic experience background. It could be also be a loose ,crack or cold solder joint,a blown fuse, fusible links or other component .It could be one of several boards.Unfortunately the level of sophistication on these TV make it virtually impossible to diagnose them further without taking them apart and probing around with a multimeter and other tools. This TV is handy enough to take to a repair shop find a good one.You will probably have to pay $75 to $100....

Hope this may help you..
