I own a PT-56WXF95 and

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

What should I do if

You need to clean all of the dust and lint out of the ventilation holes in the back and on the sides of the television. The blinking usually means that it is getting hot and dirt and dust are a big part of what causes it.

Unplug it from the wall, press and hold the power button to release the energy from the tv set. Then use canned air and a vaccuum if necessary and clean it out. Then plug it back in and see if it corrects the problem.

Green horizontal convergenc eline appears low no

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Won't power up

1.) Ok, you have found your problem---3 blinks is short protection--usually means in this set that one of the two STK-392-110 convergence chips is bad.

2.) I have detailed step by step and start to finish instructions for this repair in this set--I can email them to you if you think you can do the repair yourself. The instructions tell you what things you will need to do it.

3.) If you are not able to do it shop around as most shops TRY to charge 300-400 for this repair. You can buy the pair of chips on Ebay for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.

4.) There is a simple reason this problem happens--the chips are about 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall on heat sinks with fins and side by side--they are black and the STK-392-110 number will be printed on them in white---the back of each chip is metal and a white grease is applied to them when they are bolted to the heat sink--after 5 years or longer from the heat the grease dries out and one of the chips cannot move the heat fast enough to stay cool (the grease makes the transfer of heat quick).

5.) There are some blue resistors in front of the chips that are marked 2.2 ohm---if you look and any are white in the middle--they are gone and need to be replaced also(cheap part 2.2 ohm 1 watt resistor) it is a good idea to check all of them.

6.) If you are not able to do the repair shop around in your area--if they say "it has to go to the shop" keep looking---any good tech can do this repair in your home in about a hour--I do hundreds of them here in home for 200-250 total.

7.) If you want the instructions just give me a vote here ( I will email them to you) as I do this here for free.

When i power the television on, the television

this set should have a built in self diagnostic feature; if you try to turn it on and it does not make it on---watch the power light and count the blinks---for example----3 blinks and a pause and 3 more blinks is the error code---you may have to unplug the set and start fresh--some sets only repeat the error codes 5 times.

Fuzzy picture, oval shaped, scrolling up slowly

I would start by checking the large filter capacitors in the power supply. I can't be sure since I'm not seeing the set, but it sounds like you're describing AC ripple. In a 20-year-old set, some of those electrolytics will be drying out. A few replacements may take care of the trouble for you.

What is STK ICs?

STK-series integrated circuits are amplifier IC's that are most often used in projection TV sets as convergence output amplifiers. When these or other convergence parts fail, the three color images no longer line up correctly on the screen.

My TV picture cuts off on the top and bottom

Check what format you are in. 4:3 is like a regular tv. Sides will be cut off in this format on a widescreen tv. 16:9 zoomed will cut of top & bottom slightly. You want just regular 16:9. No zoom.

How do i clean the bulbs and screen

Take off the back and a horizontal cardboard board should slide out toward you. You should be able to see the three tubes and wipe with a soft cloth. The screen should be gently wiped up and down with a soft cotton cloth.
