DVD recorder dubbing/playing problems
your disc reader is dirty and needs cleaned..this can be done 2 ways.. one is to buy a can of electronic dusting spray, use the wand attatched to the nozzle .. stick the wand into the dvd slot and spray short bursts into the center area of the slot( dvds record and play from the center-out) the other is to find the screws that hold the cover on the unit(usually phillips head) and remove them..carefully remove the entire cover exposing the inner works of the recorder, again using the duter spray, clean the entire inside of the unit..paying close attention to the lens area of the reader..make sure not to blast it too hard and loosen the base..just enough to dust it off..then replace the cover and run the unit normally.. these units are quickly showing up at resale shops everywhere as folks are getting new digital recorders that record to a hard drive..so you may find a replacement there..I have several..

When i press remote all I get is remote DVD 3 on
The remote and the unit are using different command codes. You can try this:
Press and hold [ENTER] and the number 3 button together on remote (while pointed towards unit) for 10 seconds, then release. This should restore the remote command to your unit.
It might not help, but it's worth a shot.

Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD Recorder
Impossible to
Hi,
how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.
The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.
When
the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read
blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank
discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem,
then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new
one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing
DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading
from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand
this.
Concerning the incompatibility issue, I
hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such
as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.
Amongst
the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem.
So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.
Good luck.

While trying to save parts
Highlight the recorded program on Direct Navigator then press the Sub Menu button on the remote, then select "Shorten Title". Press (Enter) at the start point and end point of the section you want to erase, then use the up/down button to select "Next". Then, select "Erase" to delete the unwanted sections. Repeat this process for all unwanted parts, then select "Exit" to return to Direct Navigator.

Remote not working. Unit is
If unit is set to remote-2 then you need to change remote mode on remote itself as per unit to communicate, press and hold ENTER and 2 buttons on remote for 3 seconds to change remote mode on remote control, now unit will accept remote commands.
If you want to change remote mode on unit, go to menu and change remote option in unit then again change remote control mode accordingly.
Thanks.

Cannot get remote to erase programme I have seen
If you are getting an error screen with "cannot edit while ext link active" or similar, you can kill this by going into the screen for recording a new programme and THEN pressing ext link button. Found this by trial and error. Once this is off you should be able to edit in the direct navigator view. You can't switch off ext link in this view for some reason.

We have a Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD player/recorder.
The message displayed means that the remote control and unit are not communicating and the remote needs to be programmed. To program the remote, press and hold the same number that is displaying on the unit and the [ENTER] or [OK] button for more than 2 seconds. For example, if the unit displays “SET 2”, press and hold [2] and [ENTER] or [OK] for more than 2 seconds.

My recorded is linked to a tv with a Freeview box
if you TV has a feature called "Monitor" out, then you can take a "Feed"out, via, The AV, link, the Yellow, Video, Red & White Audio. wiring color to color, and selecting EXTERNAL IN on VCR. If this feature is available, whatever is on screen, is displayed out of that "Monitor Video & Audio Socket"
Get a TV manual and a VCR and have a look it will show you how.

Unable to receive signal through
It turns out that the DVR has to be on channel 3, and the channels are controlled by the cable box! I somehow had missed that part. With the DVR on channel 3 and the channel being changed through the cable box it is very awkward to try and do any recording unless it happens to be what you are watching, so I have basically given up the whole idea and am planning to return my cable box an go back to basic.
