Panasonic DVD-RV31 DVD Player - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
DVD not playing message say H02
There is a solution but it takes a little care because the wrong thing touched will give you a shock. Just stay away from the unit near where the power lead enters the unit.
OK. remove the top of the unit, place a disk in the unit press play and gently give the DVD a gentle push in a clockwise direction.
This disk should then get up to speed and start playing. It also unlocks the error. No guarantees with this one some work, some don't. I hope yours does.

I cannot get my DVD to play
Hi smcenaney,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments,
know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve
your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. -
Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by
soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Replace the ribbon - Check
the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch,
damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the
disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps
above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little
knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check
the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the
ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading
should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad
motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : 50% of my
repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor
then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to
check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should
be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is
too far or too close.
You may also replaced the entire lens assembly if the above solution didn't cure the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My dvd player appears to be stuck in fast forward
No, there isn't a reset button in it. The player is stuck because either the button for the fast forward is stuck or the processor itself is defective.
The button is relatively easy to fix: open the case, take off the front to access and remove the button board and then fix it - it's a dome switch so just take the dome off, clean the contacts and put it all back together (some soldering will be necessary).
If it's the processor then the player is dead - unfixable.

Subtitles are too low and can't be read...can I
Yes you can. It is called the aspect ratio. You will find it on the menu of your DVD Player. Goto the menu without a disk in the player.
You can also change the aspect ratio on some TV's to match that of the player. See your TV menu or user manual.

The plaver will not play says HO2
1) Dirty or poor pick-up.
2) Sled motor sticking (bad sled motor or contaminated lubricant on the sled rails).
3) Faulty spindle motor. (especially if spindle motor is spinning with top off and no disc inserted).
DVD-RV31 also tends to suffer from dry joints to the surface mount IC's and that could cause all sorts of erratic operation.

The Open/close does not work. Power is on and it
First try resetting the player. Unplug for 1/2 hour-1hr., press and hold power button for 3 seconds, wait 1/2 hour, plug back in and it should work. Otherwise you can pry open the door with a paper clip. Slowly pull door as far back as it will go, then press eject button and see if everything aligns itself back on track.

After i insert DVD it reads then say HO2 then
You will need to get a can of the compressed air or use an air compressor if you have one. Then remove the housing cover if you can and use the compressed air to blow out any dust and debris inside the unit. Also blow air into the inside of the dvd tray. This has been the common fix for the HO2 error on your DVD player. You could also use a DVD lens cleaning kit.

DVD plays well until it stutters midway thru and
If it only happens with one disc, try using a Disc Doctor/Skip Doctor on it. These instruments will repair scratches and depending on the disc, repair pinholes in the disc. Usually it's just polishing the surface of the disc. Some instruments totally resurface the disc by stripping off a thin layer of the disc to remove scratches and other damage. (Used game/music stores will do this).
