My NAD Digital Preamplifier 118 make some bad

It could be caused by a variety of things from leaky capacitors both in the power supply or in the audio signal path, to a resistor or transistor becoming intermittant. See if temperature change has any effect. If there is a change this could help you pinpoint the area where thr trouble lies. If you are using a hair drier be careful of creating too much heat. That could kill it altogether.

Take care. First put the volume down complete. Then unplug the head phone and than try to raise the volume. Could be the headphone connector does not switch through correct. Could be the connections between the pre and power amp are not in place or not proper pushed in?Always take care when working with amplifiers. When switching them on with volume to max, you easy can kill your speakers. Also when disconnecting the headphones on full power kan damage the loudspeakers.

Nad 317 protection mode

Assuming the protection circuit is not faulty, I would look to the devices on the heatsink to the cause of the fault.

Connect imac to amplifier

e4228d3d-a132-463b-8916-f7c5307ccb67.jpgI have looked at an image of NAD rear and it has RCA type jacks. I would plug it into the AUX sockets. Now to if it will work. Plug some stereo headphones into the iMac socket. If you can hear sound then the cable you intend to buy will transfer the sound you hear to the amp. If you want to record from the amp to your computer you will need another a different input on your computer and that would need to be connected to tape 1/2 out. Any 3.5mm socket to RCA will do, they are not expensive plenty of cheap ones on Amazon and E-Bay (image shown). You will need two if you do want to record as well.

Hi,
you may have a bad Earth power 110 V AC cable connection which makes such hum / buzz even nothing connected..
Check the connections between components and make sure they are secure before proceeding to the next Step. Sometimes, loose connections can cause a hum.
  • Separate the audio cables from the power cables; electromagnetic interference from the power cables can cause stereo hum. Use cable ties to secure the audio cables away from the power cables.
  • Plug in a surge protector to the outlet, and then plug all the components into that surge protector
  • Connect a ground plug to the surge protector and then plug the ground plug into the main outlet. A ground plug is available at any hardware store, and turns a three prong connection into a two prong. Ground plugs help eliminate 60 cycle hum.
  • 5 Connect the ground wire from your turntable to the ground wire connection on the receiver. If this doesn't work, looking on the back there should be a grounding point,

Unplug your receiver.. Split a wire and attach one of the splits to the receiver where you will see the text, "ground" or something similar. Attach the other end to something metal such as a pipe that goes into the ground. Secure with electrical tape. Plug in.
connect the ground wire to a screw on the electrical outlet.
