There are a few things that you will want to troubleshoot:
First, if you have other DVD's that are being read with no problem, then either your DVD is scratched or unreadable or is in a format your DVD player cannot read (some of the newer DVD's will not read in older players) or your rating level is set to block the DVD.
If your player is not reading ANY DVD's after working normally, check to see that the carriage is not damaged and that it opens and retracts cleanly and smoothly, Use a professional cleaning kit and follow the instructions. Still not detecting your DVD's MP3 Discs or Video CD's? The lens and laser apparatus can be damaged and can fail over time for many reasons from being struck or jostled, a power surge, and just normal wear and tear. It might be time for a new one.

Try switching the black button on the back of the set.

You will need your instruction manual for your universal remote.

Adjust volume on the dvd player.

If you didn't have any or have a good power strip the internal power supply could have gotten damaged, if it is under warranty get it replaced. And make sure you have a power strip for electronics at a mininum.

tis would be due to a bad servo motor the motor that spins the disc. When these start to go bad in most players it will scratch the disc damaging it. I would replace the motor or the unit as a whole. Repairing these would cost more then the unit is worth. IMHO I would trsut yuo would ether replace the unit or the motor, please do click the accept button for my efforts, Thanks.. check connection from player to tv. try swapping cables.

Sounds like a build up of dust on the lens.

2 options -

Either buy a DVD lens cleaner

Note DVD LENS cleaner, NOT DVD Cleaner the latter is for the discs, not the player

or second option is to remove lid from your player (usually 5 or 6 screws) and gently swab the lens with a cotton bud or similar soft lint free product. Try not to push too hard on the lens or you may damage the mechanism.

The lens is really obvious as it faces upwards and looks like a small round clear glass bead.

Make sure its unplugged too!

There was a button at the back that may have accidentally shifted and caused the problem so it's working now.

Remove the dvd cover and clean the lens whith a cotton sprinkler softly.
Try play it again, if the trouble persist, watch that the disc is turning with good speed.
if the disc do not turn or it is turning slow, change the motor turn disc, in countermove change the pick up laser.

hi, your memorex dvd player has a circuit that generates the different voltages to supply to the different operational circuits in the dvd device(micrprocessor, spindle,sled motors,preamplifier etc.)it's called a power supply and more that likely it's the circuit that stopped working. It might be a good time to replace it because the repair cost could be very close to the price of another one.

The switch on the back of my Memorex DVD Player was set to Progressive Scan (ON) Turned off, worked!!!

If you are plugging your DVD Power Plug into the TWC Box. Unplug it and plug it into a 'known' hot socket, (wall..con strip.etc.). Ensure the AC plug is inserted fully into the DVD player. The TWC AC connection may be disabled.

try put a vcd disc or cd audio disc, if it reads, then your lens subject for replacement, partially burnt.

unplug it for about 2 minutes and try it again. if that doesn't work, there may be a physical issue. you'll have to remove the cover and do it manually.

There is a small loading belt that is slipping. The noise you hear is the loading motor. When in the loaded position, there is a "clamper" that magnetically attached to the hub assembly to clamp the disk in place. It takes quite a bit of force to open this up. If you feel comfortable working inside the unit, you can try to gently lift up on the clamper assembly while you are trying to open the tray. That may provide enough to release the tray to open. Replace the loading belt with a new one and your problem should be resolved.

There is only 2 audio channels on player (L&R) Is there any audio input jacks for just the red and white (L&R) connections. Or just for main speakers?

try using an hdmi cable youll have better luck

I found the manual for this dvd player online. There is a switch on the back of the player. PSCAN is Progressive Scan. Some TV's are not compatible with this function so the switch must be turned off. This worked and I was watching a dvd last night!
