Try another disc, does this happen with all discs? the optics are most likely failing, did you try a DVD lens cleaner and also try canned air?

the lens is located on the inside. you will have to remove the top casing, once you do you will see the dvd player, then you will need to remove the top bar that runs across it. you will see a yellow sticker on....undo the screws and the you will see the lens.....

Hit the PSCAN switch on the back of the unit.

I just had this problem and did a search on the web and found the solution. There is a switch on the back of your DVD player for Progressive Scan. Turn it off and the message will go away and your player will work.

The entire tray needs to be replaced.

most likely the static you get from your DVD player is from the discharge voltage from the power supply capacitor within your player.The only thing you can do to remove your disc from the player is to open the top cover..and probably you'll gonna see a blown fuse and a leak capacitor which need to be replaced
to restore the power of your player.

question: Is the electric supply within your place is stable or sometimes fluctuating?
reminder: Also be aware that every time you'll operate electronic appliances specially with does metal case make sure that non of your body parts would have contact with earth ground (ex. floor/walls ) while powering on such device. sometimes the voltage from the capacitor inside the units are not discharge totally, and since the capacitor ground is connecting most of the time with the chassis of electronic device. the result would be the discharge voltage will pass through your body once you have contact with earth ground.

There is a little black switch on the back of the DVD player that says progressive scan. Slide it to off. This worked for me.

I had this problem too and fixed it. It wasn't the remote control but the sensor on the actual unit itself. There was a wire blocking the senor. To fix it I moved the wire so it ran underneath the dvd tray instead of running along the front of the unit.

First, make sure that the units are connected properly * I know it's obvious, but I did it myself one day * Then on your T.V. remote, try hitting INPUT and it should run on your VIDEO channel.
This will work 99.99% of the time. Let me know,

This is a commen problem with this model and really can not be fixed! Some DVDs have a different codeing and others dont. your player will have problems trying to play newer dvds that have this codeing (and from the DVD itself there is no way of telling till you try it at home!) look for players that play many kinds of disks!

1. I have the same problem. I bought my Memorex October 5, 2008. Worked briefly 2x on weekend. Now, as of October 10, power won't go on and DVD disc is locked inside!!! My player does not click or blink!

Take a look at the back of the dvd player there should be a switch that says Progressive scan on/off. Switch it to off. Problem solved !!!
