I have a GE31GT660 TV.

Try unplugging it for 5 mins. I heard its a hard reset...Also you can buy a universal remote for it. The brand of TV should be on it as well as the serial number... Once you have them both you can find out all about it...

42le5400 half screen is white

Check connection wire [LVDS] cable, that connects in between its T'Con and display panel for loose contact at its both end connector sockets. Re-seat it once, and check. Replace this cable, with an identical one. If you wish to get some details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts.

My tv all of a

You have bad grounds on your vertical IC. And you have a bad capacitor or two. I don't recall the actual location of the vertical IC location. I would say it may be U4501 location. Resolder the seven pins of this IC. Now check capacitor locations C4505 which is a 35 volt 220 Mf value, and C4506 which is a 63 volt 330 Mf value.Replace these caps as necessary. Then check the solder grounds at the power supply chip U4101, this chip is a switch mode regulator and may become detached from the board. Resolder these 11 pins and be careful not to short the pins with too much solder. Please note the two pins on the right (separated by a missing pin) are soldered together, this is OK. Now for the biggest challenge. You must pull the bottom shield off the tuner (has the RF connection). Yes, this area can produce the horizontal lines you speak of. When removed, you will see about 15 bad solder connections. This area will require great skill to resolder. The solder on the perimeter of this tuner is very difficult to work with, and you do not want to burn off any traces connecting to out side feeds. You could destroy this board. Now inside the tuner area there will be 5 pins or grounds that will need resoldered. Be careful here and not to burn off the small traces leading to other connections. Replace the tuner shield after complete inspection and soldering. In some cases the eeprom, locationU3201, will need replaced. Might not in your case as you say you can still watch TV and the audio is good. I know this is a lot of information, but this TV can be saved. I have repaired many of these. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

My TV is only showing

If you are talking about top and bottom, there is a small integrated circuit on the main board , it is called the vert out put IC. You will need to replace it and the 4.7 microfarad capacitor located right beside it.

Cannot change from video mode

My only suggestion would be to purchase a multi-functional remote that you could program to your TV. Now some remotes have to be programed buy your old remote. That is not what you need. You need the kind that comes with a little book that will list your tv model number and give you a code (usually 4 numbers) to teach it to talk to your tv.

T.v. out of focus

On the back of this TV you will find two black potentiometers. The top potentiometer should be the focus. Remember, you want to correct the focus, so you will need to pay attention. The bottom potentiometer is the screen voltage. This one will darken or brighten the picture. Be careful not to turn that one. Find a channel with lettering on it to adjust the focus button [top]. Twist back and forth to receive the best location. You may even press the menu button and focus on them. Try that, give me a few hands and thanks for asking!

We unpluged our cable line

It is possible that the connection in the RF pin has come out, Open the PIN and check for a break in the cable central lead copper wire, or the shielded wire. Look if the cable was damaged.
I cannot give the codes but if this helps just try to see if the picture comes. Also when you plug please check if the RF input pin is damaged to the tuner., the cable should work with the earlier memory , since there is no signal the TV tries to look for signal hunting around.
So just check with these tips.

Current value

TV is over 10 years old. Built in 98 or 99 I think... Retailed for around $400.00 then. Now, I'd say $75.00 - $100.00 would be fair if still in new condition.
