Craftsman 16" Electric Chainsaw Chain Saw 3.5 Hp Questions & Answers
I have a Craftsman 3.5 hp 16" Electric Chain Saw that I haven't used in year. Are their key steps to clean-it up operationally before I use it or start it?
Kcbriangerli: I would first clean the saw... especially the chain drive area (remove the cover first and use compressed air if you have a compressor). Check the drive sprocket for excessive wear. Check the power cord for any damage. pull up on the chain at the middle of the bar to ensure the chain is not too loose or too tight (the chain should be able to be pulled up one eighth of an inch... no more. None of the dogs at the inside of the chain should come completely out of the slot in the bar. If the chain is too loose, adjust it by reinstalling the cover, ( When you put the cover on, make sure that the small nib on the chain tensioner fits in the small hole in the bar). loosen the two chain bar retention nuts and adjust the screw at the front of the main body next to the bar. When the adjustment is correct, tighten the chain bar retention nuts and check the chain tension again. If you have a chain sharpener, now would be a dandy time to sharpen your chain.
Chainsaw trips circuit breaker
Does the circuit breaker trip before squeezing the switch? Check the power cord - there's a shortDoes the chain move freely before squeezing the switch? If not, and the circuit breaker trips while squeezing the switch, your chain is too tight.Bottom line - tell us when the breaker trips and what you were doing when it tripped.
How do you tighen a chainsaw chain?
Depends on the chainsaw. On most Stihl saws there is a screw between the two bar locking bolts that you turn clockwise to tighten the chain. On other saws the screw is in front of the housing that the bar and chain come out of and face into the housing, parallel to the bar. Clockwise still tightens the chain. In both cases you have to loosen the nuts on the guide bar studs and then adjust the tension adjustment screw. For more info go to the manufacturer's web site and download the owners manual.
The Chain Came off.
It sure does, the chain always turns in a clockwise direction as you look at the saw from the drive side, so the chain on the top of the bar should have the cutting edge facinf away from the saw.

Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower 17.5hp. Why Engine Turns Slow, Starter Hanging Up, Won't Turn Over?
Hi Joe
Still having trouble with that old mower! I thought you fixed it? You stated
the reason it was turning over and lock up the mower had the wrong starter on it the Starter Motor Drive Bendix had 16 teeth and the mower needed a Starter with 14 teeth so I changed the Starter out. That's what I did.
I reckon you are using batteries that are wearing out and don't have the required amps. Jump start the mower using your Santa Fe with the engine running. Or take the batteries to an Interstate Battery shop and ask them to test them. That is free, but they can also pulse charge them to desulphate the plates. There is a small charge for that and they keep the battery for 24 hours.
Other things you can try.
Remove the starter and connect it direct to the battery. See if it spins freely?
Turn the engine over by hand to see if there is stiffness. Then do it with the plugs out.

LT 100 craftsman riding lawn mower 17.5hp what all can cause the engine to turn over slow?
Clean the battery posts and the connectors with a wire brush and then smear them with Vaseline. Tighten the connectors well. Take of the negative ground to the chassis and do the same with that.
Also take the battery to an Interstate Battery outlet and ask them to load test the battery. Voltage is one thing but Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is the important part of a battery. They do it for free and it takes 2 minutes, and you get a printout, CCA on the battery to CCA Actual.
