Lights flashing and kettle will not heat
I followed the instructions above and have my tea kettle working again. ( i did not test the relay as above, just replaced it).Thank you so much for your help Mr. Woolverton. A few points from my experience:1-There are special screwdrivers available for the triangular slots in the screws on the base of this kettle. A package of 32 "security drivers" including various sized drivers cost me $15 at my nearby electronics store. Individual ones might be a lot less expensive, but I figure the others will come in handy in the future.2-I could not locate the original relay part by Song Chuan but did find the Omron brand. I highly recommend Digikey.com, where I bought item Z3080-ND for $6.22 including USPS standard shipping. Got the part in 2 days. They even use recyclable packaging. Use the Chat option to ask questions. Very helpful.3- Desoldering a tiny part on a circuit board is not easy. This is especially true when the part is connected to the board in 6 locations. I went to Youtube and saw how to do this first. The use of a flux-covered piece of braided wire, designed for this purpose, was most helpful. $4.22 I also used an inexpensive Solder Sucker $6.95 to help. Both obtained at the neighborhood electronics part store. The guy threw in a bit of flux for the braided wire without charge. All this stuff is reusable and went into my soldering kit.The rest went without a problem. You need a soldering iron that can reach into a small spot without hitting nearby sites on the board.Overall, the repair cost very little and saved a $75-$90 item from the landfill. All the parts except the relay are usable again on other projects - and I learned a lot. Thanks again, Stephen WoolvertonFollow up 2+ years later Jan 2019- kettle still working with no additional problems. Was worth the effort.
Heating
Mine had the same problem. It ended up being the black box relay on the circuit board. I cut it open and it was rusted / corroded inside. It would click but it would not send any current to the heating coil. Not sure if you can get replacement parts from Cuisinart.
