Iomega ZIP 100 MB SCSI (10011) External ZIP Drive Questions & Answers
Can't get computer to recognize zip drive
Steve, The 1st thing is to install the correct driver for the 100 on the computer you are using. Is it a Mac or PC? What model of computer is it. I have been able to use the Zip100 disks with an older IIGS and some older Macs (Performa and Mac SE) with no problems. I have had no experience with the PCs. The disks formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 can be read by both Mac and PC. Those formatted for the PC can also be read by Macs if PC Exchange is installed. Mac disks cannot be read by a PC.
Write back with more info to clarify your exact situation.
Ron
I have an external Iomega 250 zip drive with a USB
Yes your model will work with an iMac conveniently. The replacement chord can be gotten from any computer hardware store around. All you have to do is take the unit there so they can access what particular chord is going to function for it.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
HOW TO FORMAT A ZIP DRIVE FOR MACINTOSH SYSTEM
Format on your old Macintosh using standard Mac HFS, then your new Mac will read the files without problems. Reformat the discs if they came pre-formatted for DOS as the filenames won't copy properly and will be very slow to read/write
If your new Mac is FireWire/USB only, then you'll need to track down a USB Zip drive (the 100Mg or 250meg versions will read your discs ok.)
Zip 100 driver question -
Okay we call this the click of death meaning you got a bad zip disk or a bad drive in order to tell this try another disk if that does not work and the disk was new and formatted correctly indeed your drive presents the click of death. I have this drive and had it for a while and trust me these do give out i am on my 5th drive in a 5 year span.
I know now there is very little support if any for this drive so try what I said if another disk does not work and you know the disk is good you got a bad drive.

Download for installation software?
I would check the manufacturers site first for the software.
Sometimes for a minimal charge they will send you a new disk if you call them.
