I want to change the
Thermal printers don't use ribbons or ink. They transfer images/text with heat on to special thermal paper.

Zebra s600
The factory default setting for the S600 is thermal transfer (ribbon). depending on your OS there is a command that can be echoed to the printer to change the setting to direct transfer (non ribbon). It sounds like your printer thinks is should use a ribbon and in fact you are not using a ribbon. Here is the procedure I use to get the ribbon motor to turn on:
1. start with the printer turned off.
2. open the printhead, retract the ribbon completely onto the supply spool. leave the printhead open.
3. Press and hold the top three buttons (PAUSE, FEED and CANCEL) while turning on the printer. When the botom couple lights turn off release the buttons.
4. When you are left with the power light on and the printhead light blinking reinstall the ribbon and close the printhead.
The printer will autoclaibrate and run a sensor test.
Once complete the take up motor should have turned on and you should be able to use thermal transfer labels and a ribbon.

How do i calibrate a S600 printer?
Not sure what you mean by "calibrate". Most printers don't need to be calibrated. Perhaps if you actually describe the problem you're having we could help you fix it.

Ribbon is melting
HiYou have the heat setting in the driver set too high. Lower the heat setting to the lowest possible setting, the print quality will probably be poor then gradually increase it by 1 until print quality is good.RegardsRob

Hi there, I am printing on Zebra S600 using
Skipping labels is usually a printer driver issue. You should use Seagull Scientific printer driver only if you are using the corresponding Seagull Scientific label design software. It is important to have the printer driver and label design software be from the same manufacturer.

You must callibrate you media first.
The size of these labels are different frrom those that work correctly.
See in your manual how to callibrate media.

Can only be done by sending a ZPL command. The ZPL manual can be downloaded from the Zebra web site.

How to do a factory
If it is ever necessary to return the printer configuration to factory default values, press the FEED
key and PAUSE Key at the same time while turning the power on. The default values will remain
active until the printer power is turned off. To save the default values in memory, press the MODE
key four times. The Darken, Position, and Calibrate LEDs will cycle on and then off indicating the
values have been saved.

Dear Sir, Madam,
We recently installed
It sounds as though it is printing test labels. Switch of and on again to reset.
If no change then try factory reset.
If this does not work then you have a fualty logic board which write off the printer

Prints lable every 5 labels
Troubleshoot to see if the problem is with the printer or the software. Turn the printer off and back on again for fresh start. After the POST (power on self test) press the FEED key and see if the printer feeds just 1 label. If it does then you know the optic sensor in the printer has a good read on label size. If it feeds more than one, then it needs to be recalibrated for label size.
If it feeds 1 label, then print a format. Now if it prints 1 label and then feeds blank labels, you know the problem is in the label software you're using or in the printer driver. The printer will only do what it's told to do.
At least this way you can narrow the problem down to the printer or the software.
Hope that helps....

Can a Zebra S600 printer
Yes it can but you have to use DIRECT THERMAL MATERIAL. That eliminates the need for a ribbon but what most people don't realize is that a ribbon is almost like "Oil" in your car. Direct Thermal material is more abrasive and will wear out your printhead much faster. Now if you don't print lots of labels that may not be a big deal but if you print 500+ labels a day then thermal transfer may be a better choice in the long run. Printheads are one of the most expensive components of these printers.

Hi, On a Zebra S600 printer... How to change
The easiest way may be to change your printing preferences at the driver level. We use Seagull Scientific Drivers (They are free to download).
If you use the Seagull Driver go to your Printers Folder, "Right Click" your printer and go to Properties
Then Go to the General Tab then Printing Preferences then Stock Tab then Print Method. Click on the Down Arrow and change to THERMAL TRANSFER.
If your using a label printing package make sure your settings are for Thermal Transfer since they can override default printer settings.
Good Luck
