20 Most Recent Umax Astra 1200S Flatbed Scanner Questions & Answers

Install on Vista and Windows 7 using driver files from a XP installation. Copy the following driver files from XP: umax.inf, layout.inf, sti.inf, scsiscan.sys, sti.dll, umaxscan.dll, umaxud32.dll, umax.pnf (this may be more files than you need, but it works). Edit the umax.inf file to remove all by the 1200s/SCSI related sections (or copy it from below). Perform a manual installation of the 1200s and select the umax.inf installation file that you copied and edited. This worked perfectly. My Umax 1200s is recognized and works great in Windows 7.

i was search and there is no spare part for your Umax 1200S

first, do your have an existing antivirus? mcafee or norton? try to check the settings of your antivirus for it may be blocking your scanners driver and preventing it from installing your hardware.

This particular scanner is a nightmare to get working with XP

When it does work it is also prone to random errors.

On the UMAX australia site I found the information I needed to make it actually waok at all.


Below is part of a very old email that I went through with Umax maybe that will help you ?

It is quite an old scanner though.


Sorted out by steps as follows. Disconnect scanner usb lead from computer / hub 1. remove ALL umax software as issued on the cd and any upgrades 2. shut down restart 3. run norton (not the one button but the win doctor) to clean up any loose ends (important but dont know why ? does not work unless this has been done ??) 4. shut down restart. DO NOT connect scanner 5. Install software from original cd 6. do any umax software upgrades (ALSO IMPORTANT ) 7. shut down 8. plug scanner back in. 9. power everything back up 10. do new hardware wizard thing 11 swap driver to correct one as per instructions on your site somwhere ? all working I just did the norton one button on a second machine and it did not work so did all steps again but used norton win doctor as per step 3 and all good it worked a treat on two machine so it appears repeatable.

This scanner has quite a few issues with regards drivers and XP and is quite an old model. I spent a lot of time with UMAX when I first had one. mine resides in a closet for spares due to issues with XP. Mose so once you get past SP2. I too tried drivers either side of the model with no joy.

Open ur scanner ,s back body(its very easy)remove belt.. just clean scanner, s belt and dust from scanner with soft cloth..put it belt again..

remove the lid by lifting up. There are two philips head screws exposed. Remove screws and lift top of scanner off. Pay particular attention to thumb wheel position when lifting. Go to computer repair center and buy double sided tape. replace tape and reverse process

open the scanner and clean the scanner glass and the scanner lamp if the problem didn't solved change the scanner lamp

This worked for me umax astra 5600 Hi First download driver from driver. Install with comparability in 2000 windows and run as admin,after installation go to device manager manually select driver from imaging devices and select samsung scx-....... the first one whatever comes there. Restart and rock.
