The quickest and easiest way would be to take it back to the store you purchased it from, and ask for some guidance. They must be pretty poor to have sent you home without showing you even the most basic processes relating to your iPad.
If they are unwilling or unable to help you, take it to your nearest Apple store. I'm pretty sure that even if you didn't purchase it from them, they'd most likely be prepared to give you a few minutes of their time to introduce you to the machine and how to get it going :o)
