Hi CharlieFelicia, it's Jack at Dyson. DC33 and DC40 include very similar onboard tools - a Stair tool, and a Combination tool. These share our click-fit connection design, so the tools from DC33 should fit to the end of DC40's wand, and also directly to the hose cuff for cleaning in confined spaces. Either the motor is not getting power, or the motor needs replaced

From the age of your machine it's likely it would still be within our free 5-year parts and labour guarantee period. Attempting to repair the machine yourself could void this guarantee, but we may be able to arrange for a Dyson engineer to inspect the vacuum and carry out the repair for you. Check the drive belt. Replace it if it's broken or missing. If you Google "DC33 drive belt" you'll find lots of places to buy one.

it does it automatic

Most hoses simply pull off, and the new one pushed back on in its place. As far as I am aware replacement hoses come with the correct connections ect so the main hose should have the plastic handle part and also the bottom couplingfor near the base of the vaccume

MAKE SURE THE SMALL FILTER IS CLEAN.ALSO CHECK YOUR HOSE TO MAKE SURE THEIR IS NOTHING STUCK IN THE HOSE.CHECK THE BEATER BRUSHES AND MAKE SURE THEIR IS NOTHING CAUGHT IN THE BRUSHES

it could be the belt has striped some of the teeth and may need replacing or the teeth on brushbar here is video how to check

Hi Cathy,Your DC33's brush control is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if something is jamming the brush bar. You should be able to resolve this by making sure the cleaner head is free of any obstructions, and removing any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
