Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor via the VGA port? It could be that the LCD panel has died. If this happened after coming out of sleep mode or hybernation I suggest pulling the battery, disconnecting the AC adapter and, with no power at all, hold the Power Switch down for a full 30 seconds for a complete power drain.
