Dell HK 395 Speaker System - Need Circuit Diagram Download
1. Check the orange multi-pin connector the sufwoofer for a broken or bent pin. If there is a broken pin you can bypass it by cutting open the cable jacket and tap onto the affected wire with a 6 inch or so jumper, and then attach a jumper to the appropriate point inside the subwoofer. Pass the subwoofer jumper out of the case (drill a small hole) and connect it to the jumper you added to the cable.
2. Try wiggling and rapidly rotating the volume control. There are reports this control may become a problem as it ages.
3. I haven't been able to find a schematic. My only recourse was to google the output amp and the 2 op-amp packages for data sheets. They are readily on the internet. Then I laboriously traced out the stereo paths. I found that red and black fine tip felt pens were helpful in marking out the signal paths through the circuit boards.
Lost controller. how to use or by pass on off swith
Solder a jumper wire across the back of the switch, this will bypass the switch and the speakers will always be turned on. Turn off the speakers by unplugging the power cord, or with the switch on the surge protector that I hope you have.
Crackling static noice
Hi Roovejet.
The capacitor 104 is 0.1uf ceramic has no reading with analogue multimeter in any range of ohms scale.
if it read any of ohms value ,it is bad.
please check the large electrolytic capacitors too and loose connection for the board and.if you have volume controllers clean it with alcohol or contact cleaners.
if your device is older than 5 years it is time to change all the electrolytic capacitors.its sound like foolish but it brings new life and same quality when your buying time to the sound system.
regards.

Broken orange plug on right speaker going into subwoofer
Other posters to this forum have said this connector is available at Radio Shack. If you can't find a connector here is a workaround that will do the job:
If there is a broken pin you can bypass it by cutting open the cable jacket and delicately soldering a 6 inch or so jumper onto the affected wire, and then solder a jumper to the appropriate point inside the subwoofer. Pass the subwoofer jumper out of the case (drill a small hole) and connect it to the jumper you added to the cable.
Left speaker not working
Hi Dellhelp,
this sounds like a defective volume switch to me. If you're handy with tools and have a soldering iron you can probably pick up a suitable replacement switch for $5 and spend 30 minutes installing it.
Or for around $20 on Ebay you could buy another working unit. I wouldn't really recommend spending much time or money trying to fix them and if you do buy another set you can keep your old ones for parts :)
