I could not get an accurate representation on the net but you can replace the battery once you open it to see what the size (dimensions) and specs (voltage and amperage), then at which point we can find someone that makes the battery that would be compatible with that unit. You can also pay a local repair guy to do it. You are not putting it in correctly. In one way it will only go partially into place and will not allow you to close the battery door. turn it around and it will lock into place. Look in the hole for the contacts and make sure the battery contacts are in the same alignment.

Try setting the top dial to P, A, S or M and see if that helps. You should be pressing the fat silver button that is inside the zoom control ring on top of the camera. If it still won't work, can't help but think this is something confounding but simple and if that is the case, ask for help in any camera store. Tell them you can't shoot a still photo and see if they can't figure it out. It is awful trying to shoot with equipment that won't work right. Hope you have figured this out long before now.
