My screen is black

Does the screen work in menu mode or playback? If so then the shutter may be stuck in the closed position. Compact and bridge cameras work on "live view". The picture is live feed from the lens. Obstruction to the sensor (usually the shutter) will prevent live view.

Getting message on screen of Read Error while trying to solve the "Memory full" message, any ideas?

Memory full, if it is true, you should backup some pictures and delete them from the card. Read error, can indicate a corrupted file, dirty contacts on the memory card or a camera malfunction. for 1 backup all photos and format the card. 2. Clean the contacts on the card and in the camera. 3. Contact a FUJI dealer. Everything is in the manual (still online) on page 112

How do I fix loss of sound?

Could it be that you chose a setting in your menu that turned it down or off? I would look through all the possible settings and try changing them here and there one at a time to see if I had turned something off accidentally.

Finepix S2980 - how do I download my photos from the camera to the computer. I cannot find it in the manual.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Fuji finepix

When a camera notice the lens does not move, it is afraid to damage gears or the motor, of it powers down everything involved the lens. It then gives a message as you read. Because the camera can't know what is casing this, it only can warn. It "hopes" if it did run the lens to an obstruction, powering it down will relieve the tension. That is way it says power down. Remove the battery, check the lens barrel if any obstruction is limiting the free movement of the lens. and then replace the battery. switch it on again. If you accidentally touched the lens, while it was coming out, it could have given the same error. When after switching on the camera, and you are sure you don't obstruct the free movement of the lens barrel, but it comes back with the same error, you should contact a certified repair centre for your camera.
