Ricoh Aficio AP3800C Laser Printer - Page 3 Questions & Answers
My Ricoh 388 is in need of replacing the fuser unit
Unfortunately, on the AP3800C the oil supply unit is part of the fusing unit. However, you can purchase just the oil supply portion of the fusing unit and replace that (part #G0604022).
I'm not sure how much that would cost, but it's got to be cheaper than a whole new fusing unit.
Blue Prints as Purple
I am hesitant to assist as being in the service mode and making adjustments as you have you may be in a bit of trouble here. That being said we need to do some simple tests to determine what is causing your cyan print quality issue. The causes are usually simple and do not require any service mode adjustments. First thing you want to do is try switching the cyan drum unit around with another color. If the cyan for example is switched with the yellow drum unit and the problem transfers from cyan to yellow then you know it is the drum. I have worked on many of these and the drum units are the primary cause of both print quality issues as well as specifically color calibration failure. Swapping the drums around is very easy to do in just a few minutes and may save hours of work. Your service manual should show this but basically you just open the front door, then loosen the 2 screws that attach the diagonal grey plastic bar in place. This bar covers the drum and developer units. The drum units just slide out with a little green release tab on them.
Lets try this and see what the result is.
Good Luck
Ricoh ap3800c. I find that
Sounds like a bad clutch for the magenta unit. You can swap the clutch with one of the others (they are the same) to verify. You haveto take the controller out and sone metal panels to get to the clutches.

When I print on A3
This "rippling" is caused by the fusing unit. It is either out of adjustment or is worn and will need to be replaced. The fusing unit uses a combination of heat and pressure to fuse the toner onto the paper. Your issue is caused by an imbalance in this heat and pressure combination. This is why your A4 (letter) size paper is ok because the shorter paper does not have time to develop the ripples. The imbalance is slight but is affecting any paper that you run....it gets worse as the paper travels thru the fusing unit. This is why is starts to show up towards the trailing edge of A3 or 11X17 paper. You will need a service person to check the status of the fuser, and perform the adjustments necessary to correct the problem. If this is not possible a fuser replacement is required.
As a side note be sure to verify that your A3 paper is dry. Mosture could be a contributing factor here as well. Maybe try a fresh unopened package of paper to see if there is any change is the rippling. One could also try flipping over the paper in the tray as I have seen the "grain" in the paper affect performance as well. Although in most cases this is more of a problem with curling of the paper rather than rippling.
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.
AP3800c plastic guide that directs the paper
I'm not a repair tech, but I have a Savin SLP38c (which appears to be substantially the same as your Ricoh) with what sounds like the same problem I'm having. I'm under the impression the piece to which you're referring is the "transfer belt". It looks like a place called "Precision Roller" has the part:
http://www.precisionroller.com/belts-for-gestetner-dsc38u/details_36457.html
According to them the manufacturer's part number is:
Mfr Part #: G0604021, G060-4021
Hopefully, that helps point you in the right direction.
(Now if we could just find a take-apart guide or something to get that part out... Please post if you have information about that. Thanks!)
Ricoh 3800 printing dots on the page
sounds to me like there is damage to the charge roller in the black pcu. these can be dissasembled and the charge roller inspected/cleaned but the blk drum units are inexpensive enough its probally just better to replace it
Waste toner is almost full on Ricoh aficio AP3800C
Open the main front cover and you will see the white plastic waste toner bottle on the left hand side halfway up. I lies on its side and you can see the bottom of it.
Slide it out gently keeping it level to avoid spilling all the waste toner.
Either replace with a fresh empty waste bottle or empty the bottle into a large plastic bag you can keep sealed with the bottle inside while you shake it.
You have a good chance of spilling the toner all over your clothes if you are not carefull and note that the waste toner IS HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE so no naked flames nearby!!
