i prefer u to use windows 7 ,it cheap and convienience in burning and any kind of disk without a programme(like nero) to do that and it have usb mobe for cd or dvdr mean it use your cd/dvd r like a usb (read, delete file even it a cd-r not a cd-rw)just simply double click in your drive and it will ask u to do that
oh did u need a driver to do that ,u must type yer cd version and google it then open control panel -device manager- choose cd device ,right click choose <update driver software> u can choose update thought yer network or u can browse it to yer dirver downloaded
i have the same problem ,but when i restart my pc ,i put the disk it can read without a doult .The problem is your disk drive can't read disk when it on windows mode ,using dos and it just fine, some kind of trouble appear cause i burn too much disk in a time and it can't read next time i open computer .May be your windows problem just restart wins then put the disk in ,if it appear the green light it mean it's reading then the green light off it's mean it had identify the disk and does read it
Lol,don't worry i had the same thing, first make sure when you are writing a dvd you have changed the setting on nero to dvd,the progress bar at the bottom will change from 700megs to 4.7gigs... and its also depends wether you are writing 4,7 gigs or 8.4 gigs...try it out.
The lens could be dirty. I would try cleaning the lens of the drive.
here's a video on the cleaning I found from youtube, its annoyingly loud but shows how to clean the lens with rubbing alcohol.
may want to turn the volume down in advance:
its for a ps2 but the drive is basically the same, and you would clean the lens in the same way.
you will have to open the burner up to do the cleaning, the drive has 4 screws in the bottom, you will have to eject the tray of the drive so that it opens a little, theres a small hole on the front, then you will have to eject the clips on the front cover and the drive comes apart.
then you can do the cleaning, make sure you get all the dust out while your at it.
