I'm getting an Error 99.

Hi,

Err - 99 is one of the most frustrating messages a photographer can get because it basically means "there's something wrong, I'm not sure what it is, but something is definitely wrong". The error 99 code is a multi use code that Canon uses to alert you that there is a problem without specifics. I've gotten it on both my my Canon bodies and each time I'd pull my battery and then replace it after a few moments and the problem resolved, but that is for me. I did notice that when I would get it my battery, like yours was usually getting flat. Once I cleaned the battery contacts on both bodies the error has not come back.

Some people have also gotten error 99 with a bad card, with a bad connection to a lens or grip but also to more serious problems, too.Your best bet is to take a pencil eraser and clean all your metal contacts to see if it alleviates the problem. Also clean your card and the slot compartment. You can do the card by wiping with a soft dry cloth and the compartment by shooting canned air at an angle in short bursts. Be sure that your nozzle is at least 2 inches away from the compartment when you do this.

If you are still getting an error it's time to have a repairman examine your camera body for further investigation.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

If you're using the screen to set up your shots,

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Under the Settings tab select [Live View function settings] and press OK. Select [Live View Shoot] and press OK. Select Enable to use the LCD or Disable to use the viewfinder.

For full details, please see the "Live View Shooting" section in the manual.

If my scrren is blank how do i update the firmware

On the EOS Rebel XS 35mm you cannot update the firmware. It's possible on later Digital Rebel models, but not on the 35mm film versions.

When on play mode, one

Camera can have the same issues just like computer... crashes, that's happens most of the time when you work with your equipment and not when you don't use it; it deletes or corrupts your files.

You can try to recover your files on your digital camera card by installing file recovery software - Recuva (its free)

Good luck

I took action pictures last night with the TV mode

What your are trying to do can be very difficult. First is with a 75-300mm lens you are going to have a hard time keeping the camea steady...I suggest a monopod. Set the camera for Action shots ISO-1600...you will need a shutter speed at least 250th of a sec. to get decent action shots.

My canon has been woking well for almost 2 years

First, make absolutely sure that the electronic contact pins on the camera body and the lens are clean, grease free, and undamaged. Next, double check that you haven't simply left the focus selection switch set to manual focus.

If the fault is still present then you need to establish whether the fault lies with the camera body or with the lens. Does the fault occur with all lenses or just with one? If you only own one lens then you'll have to borrow another one to find out; if you visit a camera shop in order to do so then just pretend you're thinking of buying a lens and would like to try it on your camera (obviously you''ll need to have your camera with you). Don't tell them why you really want to try it out!

If it's with all lenses then you have a camera body fault. There is no way for you to repair a faulty AF sensor so will either have to live with it or send the camera for repair.

If the fault is with just one lens then the lens needs to be repaired or replaced. If the lens is a basic kit lens as supplied with the camera then it's usually better to consider either buying an upgraded lens or looking for a good used example of what you have (plenty of folks sell the original after an upgrade). Kit lenses are manufactured as cheaply as possible so repairs are usually not cost-effective unless the lens is covered by a warranty. As with the camera body, there is nothing you can do yourself to fix the lens.

If you need the camera or lens repaired and there is no warranty cover, then in many countries worldwide authorised Canon Service Centres offer fixed price repairs, but these prices only apply if there is no evidence of liquid damage nor of any unauthorised repair attempts and there are some other exceptions. Visit the Canon website in your country to find out more.

Good luck, and I hope that you soon have functional AF again. Please take a moment to rate my reply.

Camera displays message: "Card cannot create

The cards are usually pretty reliable but they do get corrupted from time to time. Usually caused by a bad shut down ie low battery going poof.

You can usually correct this by formatting the card either in the camera or in a pc card reader. You may have to try doing it in both before it works.

Crack on lcd screen

That would be near impossible to fix yourself. Your best bet would be to take it to an authorized Canon repair shop for LCD repairs. Digital cameras are very complex and precisely built, so you should not attempt to repair by yourself. As for the price, you would have to call a repair shop for an estimate.

I am having trouble downloading pictures from my C...

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.
