I couldnt open my hard drive... its a 160 gig

Hello medidaenterp,

Assuming the drive is still physically functional, it was likely powered off or disconnected while writing files or defragging itself. If this is the case there's one simple way to repair the drive. It runs about a 4% chance of damaging some of your files in the process but is free. If this is your wish then reply back saying you're willing to take some risk to do this free yourself and I will include step by step instructions.

I must warn you though, each attempt you make to retrieve your files will put them at further risk of being permanently damaged. If you cannot risk said damage stop using the drive and contact www.armor-it.com for professional assistance. Assuming the drive contains nothing of considerable value, reply back and I will proceed.

If you do have valuable files on the drive and are outside north america, contact me with your Country, State and City and I will direct you to a facility nearer to you.

I cant format my Buffalo HD-CE500U2. It took time

A few things to check

1. ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer.

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply (Dont use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating eg. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly)

If you checked and fixed anything there then lets see if we can format it ?

Go to your control panel and then administrative tools, select computer management.

Now select Disk Management and expand the window.

Your drive should be listed here (if not then you need to check your computer hardware has not got any issues before proceeding)

If your drive is listed and says healthy then right click on it an select Properties, click tools and then error checking, Check now, tick the two boxes and then start.

This will attempt to fix any errors on the drive. It may also ask you to restart which is fine. Allow it to finish its work or you could corrupt the drive. If all went well you should be able to use it normally again.

If you drive was listed ut did NOT say healthy then right click and select Format. Choose NTFS as the file system and do not tick any boxes you do NOT want quick format. Again start and let it do its thing. when it is done restart your computer and you should be good to go.

Hello! i got a problem with my external hard

The external drive needs to be initialized from your PC. To do this, right click your My Computer and choose Manage. At the left panel click on the Disk Management. The list of available drives will show on the right.

Right click on the drive and select create partition (primary partition). After you've selected your partition , now you need to format the hard drive. Choose quick format. Right click again on the partition you've just created, now select "Format" and select NTFS. Click ok and it will guide you until it is finished.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Apparently i need to reboot my BUFFALO &

Apparently -- if you don't know how to reboot -- you should perhaps ask some computer wizard among your friends for advice.

You don't reboot a hard drive (or any other device), you reboot THE COMPUTER. Which means you shut it down and restart it. During the startup process (which is synonymous to "booting") the computer checks all its internal interfaces and external sockets, takes an inventory of all devices and checks if they work properly.

External hard drive not recognized

Some of the externals have mapping issues in Windows.  Although the TB shows in devices, you may need to remap it (right click on My Computer for mapping options) and in some cases, changing the drive letter will fix your problem.  There's really no 1 definitive solution for these.  If you're unable to fix the problem by remapping or changing the drive letter, you can partition the drive to recover your data.  As far as the slow transfer rate goes, almost all externals are formatted in FAT.  This has issues of its own with safely removing devices and slow transfer rates.  I prefer to format my externals and flash drives in NTSF for more reliability.  Best of luck.

Computer wont pick up hard drive tonight

Hi, Try the drive on another system, if it works there then there is either a driver or registry setting stopping it from working on the current computer. If it doesn't work on the other computer then the failure is likely in the drive. In this case you can take it to a PC shop and have the techs move the HDD into a new enclosure to test it, if that works you're done, if it doesn't the HDD itself has failed and you will need the help of a pro. If it shows on the other computer, or, if it doesn't and fails to work in a new shell, comment back here with either the specifics of the computer it's not working on including specs, windows version. If it's failing to work in the new shell and you need a pro comment back with that info and your location, country/state/city and I will recommend an appropriate facility to assist you. Chris

Hard Drive dropped and not recognized by the computer;

I imagine the armature/read head is crashed and/or stuck. Nothing that I would recommend doing on your own. The disks inside can sometimes be removed and put in a new/old drive just to get everything backed up, but I would recommend having a reputable computer tech do that sort of work.

I need a product key

Have you actually purchased Visio, or are you just trying to get it for free?
As a software guy, I would have to advise against piracy. :)
There are several ways to get Visio for cheap. If you are a student, there are discounted versions available online and in stores. Also, you can check with your school for even cheaper options sometimes. Try the university bookstore if available. Or a Computer Science department maybe.
If you are working, and your company uses MS Office applications, find out if they have the "Microsoft at Home" program. You can get MS Office applications for really cheap that way. I can get Visio through my company's "Microsoft at Home" program for a few dollars.

My Employer Says They Are Going To Cut My Wages. Can They?

If you are in the middle of a contract, then cutting your wages is almost certainly a violation of your employment law rights. While I am by no means an expert on this matter, I did have a similar issue years ago - mid-contract wage cuts - and I hired anemployment attorney to fight the case on my behalf. It turned out that my employer was basically looking to scare people into taking the wage cut. They got into some pretty serious legal trouble for their transgression, and nothing happened to me in terms of wage cuts after that. If you are between contracts, your employer can re-negotiate your salary, but as far as I am aware, if you are in an agreed-upon contract, they cannot just decide to reduce your salary. If you want to settle matters, contest this action with support from a legal professional.
