Im having the same problem,I removed the cover and could not see a battery in side,it may be under one of the circuit boards.I got tired of having to constantly haveing to reset it after every power outage,so I went out and bought a new reciever..Let me know if U ever figure it out as I still have my H.K its been great aside from that [email protected]'ll do the same if i find a solution.Harry

It sounds like the power supply in your receiver has one or more filter capacitors that aren't working. They smooth out the voltage as it's converted from the AC (alternating current) provided by your electric outlet to the DC (direct current) needed by the electronics. The capacitors in your receiver are slow to charge up, and until they do the result is that hum you're hearing.

It's not difficult to replace bad capacitors, but the right tools and skills are needed. You should probably let a professional repair this unless you or someone you know is comfortable working with electronic repairs. Stereo retailers and musician's stores often have repair service available, or can recommend people to you.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

Do you know how to use a Ohm meter? Repairing electronics cannot be based on assumptions. You need to test the part, and when you read that it is defective, then you can change the part. Repairing is not as easy at it seems so I won't recommend that you repair it yourself except you have experience on electronic repairs.

So, I would recommend you take it to a repair shop.

The cost of repairs will determine whether the unit is worth fixing or not. Take the unit to a repair shop, and ascertain the cost of repairs. Now, compare the cost of repairs, with cost of a new unit..... The difference will determine whether it is worth fixing or not.

This problem needs to check the power supply performance. It may go to out-of regulation which lead to subsequent shutdown. If this is the case electrolytic capacitor is the caused of the symptom. Second is the the output IC. If this IC/transistor has leak it will go to an overload after a while of playing. Third is the pre-amplifier stage. Other factor is the bad solder joints in the board.If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot it yuorself, I would advice you to look for a professional to isolate the problem.

For a quick check, look at the front of the receiver and make sure you have speakers "A", "B" or "A+B" selected. there will be a small icon on the front display to confirm. If you still have no audio, check output from the tuner (make sure your antenna is connected. If you still have no audio, post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot deeper. Hope this helps.

Hi there.It sounds like maybe a fuse on the main board is blown.You'll have to remove the top and investigate.If you find there is not bad fuse then the main circuit for sound control is blown.You can sometimes see them if you look at the top of the diodes and there not flat.They'll be bubble up.I hope this helps you..
