I finally solved the problem. I unscrewed the cover, and found NO apparent malfunctioning parts. After a couple weeks, I took the unit to an electronics recycling event in my neighborhood, after I first cut off the power cord. I kept the screws to the cover, and will use them for a decorative craft project. I am now saving up for a REAL LP to CD unit, from a REAL manufacturer.

It's the belt from the spindle motor to the gear. It's worn and can't grip the spindle anymore. If you elp it to start off it works. Open the unit, remove the cd tray and it's underneath at the front. You can replace with a similar size elastic band.

You have to open the unit up by taking off the screws take the cover off....then you will see 2 arms that the tray slides on , they probably need to be manipulated / moved by hand to free it up and some LIGHT grease run along the track - it's probably just stuck or dirty...try it by pushing down the appropriate part while pressing eject, you will see what i mean, but you need the cover off, be careful with open electronics, maybe ground yourself and ont ever use a piece of metal in there, insulated proper tools only, and BE CAREFUL....if you dont feel comfortable have someone repair it. good luck

Read head damaged.

If a read head burns out or the alignment has changed, the laser is inoperative. If a CD/DVD was a copy or reproduced on a computer it too may not be read. If the medium works on other devices, then the players laser may be defective.

these are not rubber bands they are belts and if you do not apply the proper ones you will ruin the motor, but it is the problem

Hey SteveLah, I have the same problem - looked in manual - that means it needs service - spoke to Harmon Kardon - the only place that is still set up to potentially fix this problem is in California - I am in NY - apparently a certain kind of jig is needed and no one else has anymore....I am going to call the place in California back to see what they charge - but I am afraid the whole thing could cost a bunch - but I love this machine.

The CD recorder need to have a Line input usually in the form of RCA Left and Right. Then you need to connect the appropriate cable from the Mixers outputs (line output not from an amplifier for speakers) to the input of the CD recorder. If you have no line outputs then a headphone output will do in a pinch but might be dirty sound. Make sure to keep levels low as in CD recording once you hit O there is no more level like on tape. It will just truncate the data and might give a clipped sound output.

Just get a different CD player, IT will cost you less, I have got good used disc Players for $10 to $30 at the most, End they are not hot, PLus CD-Recorders
