Tappan gas range stopped igniting on its own

Hi Sara, I hope I can help you. The cookers with this kind of ignition have a small switch just between the facia and the tap. They often look like this one. The switches are paralel wounded. gas hob ignition-0yoolynjmjiwls2vrkoxh3po-5-0.jpg As soon as you push a button, the little red part will be pushed too and the switch works. Then the ignition block will get power and start clicking and sparking ignition_block-0yoolynjmjiwls2vrkoxh3po-5-1.jpgThis one is for a 4 burner hob, so yours will be a little different. here you see 4 male joints on top. These are for the wires to the sparkplugs. On the left are 2 bigger joints. These are for the main wires. When you look carefully, you will see a L right of the front joint. This one normally goes to the switches mentioned above. The other one is connected with the 0- connection point on the mains connection block. When you push any gas button, and the stove is connected to the grid (please be careful), there must be 230 V on that point. For myself, when I test the block, I use a wire with a switch in it that I can push in the grid and the other end has 2 female connectors that suit the ignition block. When I push the switch in th wire, the block must workand at least some of the sparks should fire. If this does not work, then you can assume that the block needs to be replaced. If the block works correctly then the next step is to check the connections of the string of switches. One wire should go to the block, the other wire comes from the mains connection. Then the last possibility is that the 0-connection of the ignition block is not OK. I hope this helps, kind regards, Dik

Oven shuts off

astrosandiWelcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

you asked , Is there a recall on this Tappan range? You are exasperated; you have replaced the electronic control three times in the last six years and the clock still blinks off and on occasionally and the oven shuts itself off. Totally frustrated and would never buy this oven again.

What is the model number?
How old is the range?

Don't put good money into bad!
You need to shop quality and not price!

Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old range

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your range,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your range is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that ranges under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your ranger is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new range.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive range
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of ranges you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

Can I replace the light in the clock or do I have

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa

Unfortunately the display in your specific model of range is emitted from within' the timer/ERC itself, (onboard transformer) therefore the entire assembly would need to be changed if the display has dimmed.

The timer is available at most local appliance part supplier's or on-line vendors such as "repairclinic.com" or "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple for around $150-$200USD.

It should resemble the image shown here, based on the model number provided.

Thank you for choosing FixYa. Good luck moving forward. Let me know if I can assist you in any manner and I'll see what I can do.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

My Tappan Oven is taking 30 minutes to warm-up to

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. This video will walk you thru the correct procedure for testing an oven igniter. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

The clock on the stove

hello,
You can set the timer on a range slow cooker to automatically switch to a warming setting when you estimate foods will finish cooking. The programmable features allow you to leave food stewing at home while you are out of the house, freeing up your day. Set the timer on a range slow cooker to let the kitchen appliance do all the work, and come home to a fully cooked meal.
Fill the insert of the range slow cooker with food and cover it with the lid. At least a quarter of the insert should be filled with liquid to keep the environment moist during long cooking times.
Press the "On/Off" button on the left side of the electronic control panel in the front of the appliance. This will turn on the slow cooker to the low heat "Warm" setting.
Press the "Cook Time" button on the right side of the electronic control panel to add hours to the timer which will show a total time in hours with a red digital display. Continue to press the button until the display indicates the desired cook time in one-hour increments up to 10 hours. The cooker will automatically adjust the temperature setting based on the amount of time you programmed on the timer. Cooking times of six hours or less automatically start on "High" heat and times of seven hours or more will start on "Low" heat. A small indicator light will come on below the word to tell you the cooking temperature.

thanks for using fixya
