Erase Lamp Service Check (010/212/414/616)
Error code 928 may be displayed when the printer detects that the erase lamp assembly, cable or engine board is defective.
Note: If the erase lamp assembly is defective, both the erase lamp and lens are replaced as a kit. Models 41b/41e/41l and any model at service level B do not have erase lamps installed. Go to "Printer Serial Label" on page 7-2 to identify the printer service level. Make the following checks when a 928 service error displays.
1 Cable, Front Harness
Check the connection of the front harness to connector J10 on the engine board for correct installation. If incorrect, repair as necessary.Check the front harness to erase lamp assembly for correct

2 Engine Board Remove the controller board and toner cartridge from the machine. Ground pin J10-15. The erase lamps turn on. The lamps can be observed through the front of the machine with
the cover open and print cartridge removed. If the lamps do not turn on, measure the voltage on J10-14. The voltage reads approximately +24 V dc. If incorrect, replace the engine board. If correct, check the voltage at J10-15. The voltage reads between +15 V dc to +20 V dc. If incorrect, check the continuity of the erase lamp lines in the main harness. If incorrect, replace the cable harness. If correct, replace the erase lamp assembly.
921 service fuser error
The 921 service fuser error indicates the fuser indicates that the fuser unit failed to reach the standby temperature. This usually requires service. But here's a couple of things worth checking:
- Unplug printer from power source, replug after 30 seconds. Make sure to plug the printer straight to the power outlet in the wall. Bypass any surge devices or power strips as they can cause low amperage resulting to false fuser error.
- Check Maintenance kit count. Go to Configuration Menu by pressing Select and Return while powering on the printer. If count value reached 300,000, maintenance kit should be replaced.
If error continues, don't hesitate to contact Lexmark technical support or your authorized service provider for assistance.

Getting shadowing on print out?...
shadowing or ghost printing is usually caused by a fuser that is not running at its opperating temperature the fuser is the problem about 85% of the time. the thermistor is directly responsible replacing this part will clear up the prolem or repace the whole fuser depending on the wear. toner cartridges can also do this for the toner to do this its usually a expose drum has been set down on a dirty or rough surface thus compromising its surface

Try putting the old fuser back and see if it gets rid of the error, then if that's the case the new fuser is defective. If not, here's a link to the Lexmark website which gives you instructions on what to do when having that "Invalid Engine Code" error message.
