Forgot password on modem

There a couple of things you can do, 1. Reset the Wireless Device to Default Settings and reconfigure the SSID and Security, (note to self: tatto password on body) OR , use this little program, while connected to the wireless device via a ethernet cable or another computer already connected to home wireless: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Decrypting-Decoding/WirelessKeyView.shtml . The program is safe, your Anti Virus my ID it, but allow to run, I use it often.

Default router password is not working.

Are you sure you reset it ? Try holding the reset switch with power off and unplugged for a few seconds, then try resetting with power on.
  • If you do not remember your password, you can click "I Forgot My Password" on the login screen and the 2Wire will provide you with a password hint.
  • If you still do not remember, you can click on "I Still Don't Remember My Password" and the 2Wire will prompt you for the system key.
  • The system key is located on the side of the 2Wire HomePortal on a sticker and is a 10-digit number surrounded by brackets (ex: [1234567890]). It is located between the two barcodes on the sticker (see image below).
  • Once you enter the system key, the 2Wire will allow you to reset the password to anything you like.
If after your hint is shown to you, you still can't remember your password, there is a "I still can't remember my password" link that you can click to take you to a page to obtain a temporary password. To obtain a temporary password, you must call the support telephone number on the screen and provide the special code number that is generated by your HomePortal. The support representative will use this special code number to generate a temporary password. Once you have entered the temporary password, you can then change your password and enter an appropriate hint.

I would increase the wireless power inside the modem. This will boost the signal allowing it to stay connected more often.

- open IE
- browse to gateway.2wire.net
- homenetwork icon
- wireless settings
- enter your system password
- If your on channel 1 or 11 the power will only be able to go to 4.
- Change to a wireless channel between 2 and 10
- Increase the power to 10
- Save
