It's a CCD problem which SONY could fix for free till January 31st (in Europe), don't know about the America, but you should contact SONY and ask do they still offer a free imager replacement for this camera as they did all the time as they came factory faulty.

Hope this helps!

I get (have) a black screen when I put my camera

Try hitting the display button(the small TV resembling icon in the bottom right of the camera). You may have accidentally pressed it while using your camera and caused it to turn off your display.

The CCD imager is faulty and it has to be replaced. A well known problem with the M1. Contact SONY and see if they will replace the CCD imager unit free of charge. They did but recently they stopped the free replacement for a lot of models.

Scratchy sound so loud you barely can hear normal conversation

Scratch noise is generally caused by failure of one or more Electronics Capacitors located on the board.

But in smaller devices, it may also be due to unstable soldered connections (dry joints)
Please check out the ear set may be there's a cable which just needs to be resoldered correctly.

Which equipment are you using exactly?
