Sounds like a wire inside your camera going into the camera's shutters may be separated, broken, or shifted. Might be a defected camera, otherwise send it to repair; they'll know what to do.

It is an old camera. It was introduced in 2002. The spec's I looked up just say memory stick, and memory included "8MB Memory Stick". I looked the MSAC-M2 up on line and it looks a like it's a "Memory Stick Duo Adapter" not a memory stick. I'd try one that is sold as a "Memory Stick".

The problem is due to lens block assembly because the slide motor start malfunction and that's why the zoom statr problem, mostly indicate on LCD "Turn off the power and on again".
You have to replace the optical block assembly the detail of the optical is given below:

u may as well kill urself. its broken. go get it checked out. i took apart my camera and tried to fix it myself... i shocked the **** out of my hand. best buy or something

You have to check the CCD and this can be faulty. The picture may look hazy or lines mayy appear randomly.

Actually, try manually turning off the flash and taking a picture. If the shutter works and takes a picture, then suspect that your flash is burned out. Unfortunately it's not a simple task to change a burned out flash tube.

camera needs new shutter switch .If you can repair yourself and save $$$ .A few outside screws and new switch just plugs in ..new switch is an improved part #147724313 order at sony.com ..goodluck

Hi! Just had the same problem (black display) on a Pentax Optio 330GS(?). I moved my hand in front of it and took pictures of things but nothing happened. Then my girlfriend tried to point it to a lamp, and all-of-a-sudden it kinda woke up from a screensaver or something. So weird, but it worked. Perhaps it needs enough light in order to start using the display and lens. I couldn't take any pictures when the LCD was black. So, try pointing it towards a strong light source before you break your camera.

This need looking at by Sony- anything from a faulty switch to a board fault here.

USB can be funny some times- it has worked so you know what to do OK? Check-the USB setting- Start/ControlPanel/System hardware/device manager Rund down to the USB setting and open it check for any yellow makers intcatiing afault - seek help from there. If you are using a hub or have multiple other devices connected.- disconnec them and use the USB cord direct to computer. Have you remembered to switch the camera on- it has good batteries- set to upload Huh! So much to remember easy to forget something If the trouble wont go away- go buy a card reader and leave that lugged in to usb.
