DSC-F505 does not show as a disk drive

dmangadu

It sounds like the drive letter that the camera wants is already assigned to another device. The link below will help you change the drive letter.

Yes, you can get what you need on Ebay or Amazon.com. Ebay appears to be cheaper. When searching at eother place just type in the make and model in the search box.

Memory Sticks, there are so many Sony memory stick

There is the memory stick, memory stick pro duo, SD, XD, compact flash, and the list can go on. As long as you get the same type (shape) of card the brand & mega bites or giga bites doesn't really matter. The higher the bites the more memory you'll have.

F505 Battery Question

The Sony battery for the F505 is the info lithium type from Sony. Since its lithium you don't have to worry about the memory effect of the older technology. The battery has a chip that will regulate the amount of charge the battery needs. It will stop charging if the battery is full, so you can charge it at anytime. You should store it fully charged from what I've been told, if it for extended period of time. For short interval it should not matter.

Using the Dsc - F505 as a Web Cam!?

I use my F505 as a webcam sometimes. Software you need can be downloaded from http://surveyorcorp.com/webcam32/ (supports simple FTP transfer of pictures to the webserver, or "direct" stream using an java applet connecting to your machine) You also need video input in your PC. Some (few) video cards can do this, or purchase a tv card (i am using haupauge). This all runs smoothly

Usb connection in pic

Do not use Picture Gear Lite to open your pictures. If you have Windows 98 and have installed the drivers from your CD supplied with the camera then open the pictures from your Windows Explorer. When you hook up the USB cable to your 505 from the PC then turn on the cameras power. At that point you will have a new drive letter appear in Windows Explorer. That is if your drivers are installed correctly. Once you see the new drive letter appear, just open files from it just as you would if you were doing so from a floppy disk. Copy/Paste or what ever. Go on and give it a shot! Have fun.............

F505 Battery

I think not. The FS11 is the sequel to the FS10, which was of lesser capacity. Their lineup is the FS11, FS21, FS31, each one being thicker and longer life.

F505 USB driver problems

I don't know if I'll be much help, but I own a Dell also. I have an older Dell, it's a Pentium II 300 XPSD3000. When I first installed the driver, it recognized the camera and I was able to copy the images off of it. But when I unplugged the USB cable, or turn the camera off, my computer froze. After trying everything, I resorted to fromatting my drive and reinstalled Windows 98. Everything works great now! No more freezing after I remove the USB cable, or turn the camera off. I also use a Dell at work. It's a Pentium II 450 and it seems to work fine with the camera. I'm not suggesting you format your hard drive and start over, but if it's your last resort, you might want to try it. Get some help if you're uneasy about doing it. First you should try these steps though: 1. Remove the USB drivers you had previously installed. 2. Take at least one picture with your camera. 3. Connect the USB cable to the computer and your camera (with the camera turned off). 4. Put the driver cd in the cd-rom and turn the camera on. The computer should detect a new device and ask for drivers.

Types of filter lenses to use with DSC-F505 camera

I bought a Hama skylight filter for the express purpose of protecting the lens. I've not noticed any degradation in image quality. Of course, ultimately the filter will block some of the light that's hitting the CCD, but it's so little as to not be noticeable. Being as the lens cap clips into the thread of the lens then yes, it does still fit perfectly into the thread of the filter, so no problem there!

Mac without ISB and F-505?

I use my Sony camaras (F55) with the PCMCIA card adapter. It works great. But now I'm switching from a powerbook to an iBook so I have to get a PCMCIA USB reader!! For you, I'd get the USB PCI card that goes into your mac and then find drivers for the Sony camara if they have them for the mac. Otherwise, go the PCMCIA reader route.

F505 Voice recording

The press release at the Sony website states that it has mpeg audio and video capabilities, but doesn't say anything about the audio with jpegs. The release is very vague on the description of things, so it's hard to say from what's stated there. http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/corpcomm/news/ita/109.html The Description listing for the camera is also very general.
