Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20

The lens can not move due to an obstruction.

Gently put some force on the lens, turn the camera on and it works.

Best regards from Holland!

FZ-20 "Please turn camera off then on again"

In a lot of smaller point and shoot cameras, there is a separate lens/motor/gear assembly inside that focuses. If this lens won't focus, that is the message you get. The focus lens gears are typically incredibly small, and the tiniest hair, or piece of dirt will jam them. I have not fixed this particular model, but I've cleaned the focus lens gears on countless Casio and Sony models, and gotten them to work again. Try getting to the focus lens and motor, and moving it by hand. You'll find it's likely jamming up somewhere.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20

This happened to me after a day in the sun..
There seems to be some poor electrical contact so when the flash popped up I had to manually pull it up further to ensure that it was on.

Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera.

I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.

Lens doesn't extend

its likely the lens was physically damaged/jammed during the drop. Your best bet is to take it to the local camera shop for repairs. I would also refrain from turning it on to reduce the possibility of further damage.

Message "This memory card is protected"

There should be a tiny little switch on the left side of the memory card. It should be in the position wich is nearer to the contacts. So if you just got it out from the camera, it should be in the more far position (sorry for my enlish, but i hope you can understand me)
If you cant find the swich, it maybe fall of. you can stick some paper in it too. Not too deep, but it should hang out to be in line with the cards left side (that is, what matters).

The memory card has a small slide lock on it. It may have been inadvertantly locked. Just slide the lock to the other position and try card again.

Best picture mode

Speed= Shutter Speed
A= Apeture
M=Manual
P=Program
I you are asking about the meaning of the above this suggests you are just starting out so the best setting is P[Program]
This lets the camera select for its self the optimum settings.
With more than 60 years of photography behind me - I still use 'P' for snapping around.
If you want to go further you will have go get a good book.

Panosonic DMC-FZ20

The problem may be with the computer. Have you tried connecting the camera to any other computer? If it is the camera, you might just want to pick up a cheap card reader and pop your SD card into it. Multi card readers sell for $5-$15 and will read most of the flash cards that are out there today. Jid

DMC-FZ20 dismantle help...

It's not clear from casual inspection, but the spring is a separate sheet of stamped metal and is not connected to the shoe. If you can lift up the forward edge, it should slide right out of the shoe.
