The motor thermal protection keeps tripping after a few minutes.I have stripped and checked all the filters and tubes are clean but still keeps tripping .Any ideas ?.Graham
Many devices including this one have what's known as a thermal cut out.
It is there for obvious safety reasons and prevents the temperature in
the locality of the cut out from exceeding a pre-defined value.
Some of them require you to press a reset button in order to switch the
power back on and other types simply reconnect the electricity supply
when the temperature returns to normal (safe) operating limits.
The Dyson DC07 has a thermal cut out located close to the motor and it is of the "self resetting" type.
If your vacuum cleaner switches off after a few minutes the most
probable cause (there can be others) is the thermal cut out has
operated.
The first and most important thing to do is to establish why it has
operated.... If the airflow around the motor has become restricted then
it will not be being sufficiently cooled and so it will have cut out
correctly. However, thermal cut outs are often quite crude internally
and it is not uncommon for them to start cutting out at too low a
temperature. So...
Here's what to do...
(some tools may be required to complete the following so read the entire
procedure before starting. Please note this is not an absolute guide if
you need really foolproof step by step instructions... buy a manual!
But this should help)
Check all these parts for blockages/clogging before continuing...
There are now only two areas left that I know of which may cause
further blockages. One is the "whole of life filter" located under the
dust bin and the other one is inside each of those seven little cones
(cyclonic chambers) at the top of the dust bin (root 8 cyclone is
usually written on one of them). The following will require some tools
and some common sense...
If none of this revealed anything very positive... Its time to open up and inspect the motor casing/thermal cut out.
**** WARNING**** The next section requires someone who is technically
minded, has fiddly fingers patience and a basic understanding of
typical plastic goods assembly techniques. As I am not including
photo's the descriptions given can only be considered as pointers to
how to do it (I'm not writing a Haynes manual here! So if you are a cak
handed clot with little or no patience and a tendency to resort to ever
bigger hammers - take the vacuum cleaner to an independent repair shop
- explain the symptoms, tell them what you have done so far and leave it
to them!!
NB. NEVER remove or bypass the cut out. this really could be very dangerous!
I hope this is of some help... Regards to all.

Our new carpet is too thick to push our Dyson. What do we do about that?
Hi there,
Some plush pile carpets are unsuitable for use with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a revolving brush. I'd recommend contacting the carpet manufacturer for advice on the correct way to clean it. They may suggest vacuuming it with the brushbar switched off - to do this, turn the brush control on your DC07 to the 'hard floors' setting.
If you have any further concerns, please get in touch with us directly - one of our experts will be happy to provide further assistance. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).
Kind regards,

how do it reset my vacuum?
What do you want to reset? Do you mean the motor has stopped working? There is no "reset button". The motor has an automatic cut-out, which will operate if the motor gets too hot and will reset itself when it cools. If the motor will not work when it's cool, then you have an electrical problem which will probably need professional attention.

My Dyson vacuum works fine for cleaning the rug but the hose doesnt get any suction at all. I removed the hose and all the parts around it that I could and dont see any clogs or broken pieces. I lost my manual so I dont know if this is addressed, or if there is a switch Im not flipping. Gave it a thorough look but found nothing.
Just resolved the same problem...couldn't find a blockage anywhere, but pulled handle out of hose and extended hose as far as possible upward. Aha! There was blockage in the hose at the very bottom where the flexible hose meets the rigid part.. There is a lever which releases the entry to the bottom of the hose. A pencil, lots of coins, a crumpled receipt and general dirt were stuck. Easy to clean and now it works like new again.

I was cleaning with the Dyson a few days ago and it began to get louder as if pressure/vacuum was building too high. Then the pressure release valve opened, and now everytime I turn it on it takes a couple of seconds for the pressure/vacuum to build again and the release opens. I cleaned everything I can see to clean, and don't see any clogs! Please help.
There are a couple of things you can do, the blled valve (pressure valve) activates when there is a blockage in the machine. You just need to find the blockage:
1) To check for blockages from the bottom of the machine. Remove the:
(i) U-Bend (stand behind the machine and look next to the right-hand-side wheel, it's attached with a rectangular clip next to the
long gray hose - push the clip and pull the U-Bend off, make sure its clear - if there's a blockage remove it and continue with the
blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(ii) AI Valve (stand behind the machine and look above the right-hand side wheel, it's attached with two buttons on either side of the
AI Pipe/Valve - push the two buttons and pull the pipe up and off and make sure there is clear - if there's a blockage remove it and
continue with the blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(iii) Refit the internal hose on the bottom of the machine between the wheels and make sure it isn't torn and has no holes in it and
that there is nothing clogged inside it - to refit the hose: Pull it off where it sits next to the wheel first - make sure that the
gray piece of rubber is still on the hose (if it isn't, pull the gray piece of rubber off the hole and reconnect it to the hose by
twisting it back on) - next, twist the hose off where it connects to the brushbar - inspect the hose and make sure you don't have any
holes in it - put it back on by twisting it onto the side of the brushbar first - then line the gray piece of plastic end up with the
hole next to the wheel and push and twist it back over the hole. Bring the machine back upright and test it
2) To check for blockages in the wand.
(ii) Wand - take the wand off the back of the machine - put one hand on the wand handle and one hand on the gray hose - pull the
handle and push the gray hose down, you'll see a metal rod being exposed, push the hose until it clicks into place - press the
half-moon shape button with a picture of a lock on it (found on the solid gray plastic end of the flexible hose) and separate the wand
competely - point the wand into the air or at a source of light (please don't point it at the sun) and look through the metal rod part
- the handle is bent but you should still see some light coming through the other end - if you don't, there is a blockage in the wand
- use a long object like a stick or a metal hanger to remove the blockage
(iii) Hose - no need to remove it - just stretch it out and make sure that there are no dark spots in the hose (those would be
blockages) - you can also through the top of the hose - if you don't see the ground at the bottom there is a blockage in the hose
3) If no blockages are found on the machine at all:
(i) wash the filter in cold water and leave it out to dry for at least 24 hours
(ii) blow out the cyclone from the bottom (open the door on the bin door - you can now look into the cyclone) - blow it out with an
air compressor or a leaf blower
(iii) Wipe all the small holes off on the cyclone with a dryer sheet
When the filter is dry, test the suction again. If there still is no suction on the machine, call the Dyson Helpline, they'll set you
up with a repair with the closest authorized dealer in your area.

On the DC07, the entire cyclone assembly must be removed to empty the dust, debris, etc. collected when vacuuming. On the top of the cyclone is a "trigger" that you lift with your finger to release the bottom catch, which allows a clear flap to open on the "clear bin," thus letting all the debris fall out.
My problem is when you lift the finger trigger, it does not release the catch on the bottom. Since the catch won't release, I cannot remove the entire clear bin either from the cyclone.Any suggestions?
I just received my replacement root cyclone in the mail today after waiting in the back-ordered status for three months. I positioned a butter knife in between the rubber gasket on the bottom flap lid and the bottom rim of the clear bin at the farthest point from the hinge and slowly and gently wiggled the knife between until the bottom flap just fell open. I examined the rubber gasket and it survived without injury and the bottom flap seals without any gaps...good luck

Ok heres my problem, I was using it and it started making this horrible loud noise, stopped the hoover and it looked like the brushes were full of dog hair so cut that all away, its still doing it and the brushes are not moving so we thought maybe it was the belt, but the belt looks to be fine. The noise starts when I put the head of the hoover down to hoover, I can use the rest of it fine (less suctions though) I have no manual with this as I bought it second hand so dont know what I can and cant try. Any ideas please??
Ensure plug is not in the socket.
remove the guard from around the roller on base of Dyson by turning 3 screws 90 Deg anti clock wise.
unclip belt from the metal spindle from the motor.
Pull out the roller.
Pull the end of the roller out.
They do not screw, they just pull out.
Clean the muck out from inside the roller ends.
Put end caps back on.
put belt on and thread through the slot.
put belt back on to motor spindle.
Ta da it stops squeeling.
