The end of service life message comes up when the waste ink tank becomes full, the waste ink pads/tank need to be replaced to new ones and the printer then reset.

Of course you can skip the replacing, but this will most likely cause your printer to start leaking ink at some point and printouts will be covered in excess ink.

but to get the best results you should take this machine to a repairer so the ink pads can be replaced and then reset properly.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges? ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR.

This is the only advice I can give you.

If it says that parts need maintenance its will probably be your waste ink pads are full You are supposed to take the printer to your nearest Epson service station to have it diagnosed the waste pads changed and the printer reset The usual cost for this is about £50 -£60 Or you could try to do the job yourself You need a service manual for your make of printer a set of ink pads and the ssc reset utility or you could take the pads out wash and dry them and reuse them Look up the net for the reset utility for your printer

Most likely you have some clogged nozzles.

Easiest way to check is to use the Maintenance functions to print off a nozzle check and then look for any missing grid lines as this indicates nozzle clogs.

If there are then it's worth getting a suitable cleaning solution and soaking a small wad of paper towel in it. Moving the printhead off the parking pad and then placing your soaked wad on this before moving the printhead over it to sit on the wad.

This allows the cleaning fluid to wick up into the printhead nozzles and slowly break down the clog so it can be ejected out.

The key to this succeeding is that the wad soaked in cleaning fluid is changed a couple of times and that you leave it for at least 6 to 12 hours to allow the fluid to work. Patience is key, as a result..

Once the 12 hours is up, a single cleaning routine followed by a nozzle check should indicate that your nozzles are starting to clear... Really stubborn clogs can take longer and sometimes it's worth having a set of refillable cartridges installed and filled with the cleaning fluid too so the fluid can work on the clog from the other side of the printhead.

It if helps I've managed to resurrect an old C84 this way just recently and it's printing beautifully so if you can hang on to your printer it's worth the hassle.

The message indicates that there is some issue in printer hardware and printer needs service so you need to get in touch with the local printer vendor to get it service and it would start working fine.

Probably too late to be of much help but in case you're still hoping for an answer this article describes how to fit an external waste ink kit to your C86.

Not too hard and well worth doing as the C86 is still a pretty good printer as I've discovered having resurrected one of my old units.

Try to replace original ink, or reset printer headcounter maybe it reaches to maximum copies, or printer head itself defective.

YOU NEED TO DISABLE THE INK LEVEL MONITORS AFTER RE-FILLING THE CARTRIDGES. GO TO PROPERTIES, MAINTENANCE, VIEW PRINTER STATUS, OPTION AND CLICK ENABLE STATUS MONITOR ONCE.

Hello.

Try reinstalling your printer driver.

Go to Printers and Faxes and delete your printer icon.

Disconnect the USB cable.

Restart your computer.

Reconnect the USB to your computer.

Your computer should see your printer. Install the printer driver.

If still a problem, either your USB port on your PC, or the USB printer cable is probably faulty.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled (the absolute worst possible choice) or third party cartridges (2nd. Worst possible choice) that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Summary

Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging
What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead

1. Right click in the printer driver name
2. Select Properties menu
3. Click Maintenance tab
4. Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times.
5. If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning

And if that not work

Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this,
But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work.

There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water.

Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them,
It worth a try it worked for me more than ones.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.
And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.
