How do I check the CPU cooling fan setting in the BIOS please ? I also understand my PC has a TV tuner - how do I access it please ?

On startup push F2 (or DEL or F12) to enter setup/bios. As for the tv tuner, you'll need to connect Cable TV to it then use some software such as Windows Media Center, to view the channels.

Why cooling fans not working is there fuses for them

If the fans are not turning, check the 12 volts from the power supply. I would bet you need to replace the power supply. The power supply generates +5 v, -5 v, +12v and -12 v. The fans use the +12 v for power.

Laptop shuts OFF on it's own

Laptop fans DO NOT run constantly. They only turn on when booted up and once the laptop has reached a certain temperature. You should probably time how long for a shutdown, record your results. Let laptop cool for 10-15 between attempts. If it takes approximately same amount of time to shutdown between attempts it is very possible its overheating.
Other things like Viruses, software conflicts, and Harddrive problems can also be the culprit. take a look at the administrator event logs for any clue there. Event logs are in control panel under Administrator Tools.

I don't recommend trying to fix any overheating issue you may have, as that would entaiil disassembling your laptop. Unless you have a bit of experience in this, I would take it to a good repair shop.

Hope this helps you some. If so please rate my solution.

The cooling fan racing is a symptom of a No Post state in the Motherboard. The Power LED and diagnostic LED indications would be helpful in resolving your issue. If the power LED is flashing Amber, the power supply is suspect, solid Amber points to the motherboard or something connected to it. The DIAG LEDs 1234 on the front or ABCD on the back give more specific information.

Initial Impression, is motherboard failure, post the DIAG and Power LED indications for more exact diagnosis

Latitude e6500 runs hot how do i boost the fan

You may need to clean the fan and heatsink of dust. See the dust restricts the cool air from reaching the heatsink and this in turn causes your fan to spin faster. The computer's BIOS is programmed to increase CPU fan speed as CPU tempreature increases. If your fan is very loud, then it is running at the maximum speed possible. A clean heatsink will decrease the Processor's temperature.Installing additional fans in your computer's chassis is an effective way of bringing the temperatures down. Install the biggest fans that your chassis supports. 120mm fans are better than 80mm fans as they can spin at slower speeds to provide the same airflow of a smaller fan. Therefore giving you a quiet computer.Use a program called Speed Fan to ensure that your fans are indeed running at the desirable level of 100%Take care!damnor01

The dell dimension 8300 is run in high end then

This indicates that the Processor is getting too hot. When the Processor gets hot the computer is programed to increase fan speed to cool itself down. To solve this problem you will want to install a chassis fan in your computer's chassis, either bringing freash air into system (intake) or as an exhaust blowing air out of your computer system. Purchase them at your local computer store they are inexpensive and are a great asset to your computer system. Another option that will help the most is to clean the processor fan of dust. Dust accumulates over the heatsink and prevents the cool air from cooling your processor. Remove the dust with a vaccum cleaner and a paint brush. Do it in a very gental manner as you don't want to damage the fan blades. In some cases it is possible to remove the fan and get at the dust that way.Take care!damnor01

My fan is not running

Which fan is not running? Case fan, CPU fan, PSU fan? CPU fans will cause the computer to shutdown automatically usually with in a few seconds of boot. If it isn't running at all, simply replace it. They are measured in milometers 40, 60 , 80, 90, 120 and some 200mm form factors. Just replace with the same size fan size and you should be up and running again. Comment if you need more help.

Where is the fan on a desktop # 5543

There will generally be a CPU fan (on top of the heatsink) and some computers will have additional fans. You will need to remove the side panel, afterwards the fan's should be clearly visible. What is the issue?

Dimension 3000: [email protected]. NOISY

As for the green shroud, I would not recommend removing it. The computer case is designed to correctly circulate the air through the system and safely out. As for replacing the fans you can replace them with anything you like, just make sure the new fans are the same dimensions they come in szies 40, 60, 80, 92, 120, 140 and a newer 200 mm form factor so you can just measure them if you don't know the correct size. Next look at where the fans plug in, if it is a three pin plug then they fan's are kept at optimal speeds via the motherboard and bios. So they are already controlled by heat sensors / thermostat so to speak. If they are 2 pin then they just run full speed usually. For the back fan just make sure it is the right size and pin out. You can hook a 3 pin fan to a 2 pin fan plug on the board it will just run full speed all the time. For the CPU fan buy a combo fan/ sink and just make sure the sink is the same as the existing one so it will fit on the motherboard. You could probably get rid of the green shroud if you went with a really high end fan / sink for the CPU but that's up to you. For the thermal paste it is easiest to put a small blob in the center of the CPU and then use a plastic card, such as a drivers license to spread it out to cover the entire CPU, thinly and evenly. Add small amounts if you need to to cover the entire surface. Try not to have a bunch oozing out the sides although it won't really hurt if it is.

Dell Inspiron Fan running constantly

Stock fans tend to be very loud. If this is a laptop your probably SOL on finding a compatible replacement. If this is a desktop then just buy the same dimensions or just by the fan/heat sink combo's of the same size. From looking up the fan in question I'd say this is a laptop and there isn't much you can do about it

Fans generally are rather tough, they are built to survive the dust. These are brushless motor driven fans meaning that they work with a bit of circuitry located beneath the Hub. Clean the fan of dust and then apply 12DC to the correct polarity. It is possible that your fan has worn out which does occur after some years. A replacement fan and/cooler can be found either at your local computer store or on E-bay.They are not too expensive considering that they save your CPU from overheating.Take care!damnor01

My Dell Inspiron 15R fan

When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

My n4030 dell cooling fan

The good news is that you will get to open that case. The bad news is you will open the case to replace that fan.

Remove the power cord. Then open the case.Make sure you do NOT do this while standing on carpet or a rug. Before you touch anything make sure to touch some one or some thing to discharge static electricity. Now use a small screw driver and remove the 4 screws that hold the fan down. Now gently lift the fan out and put in the new one.Screw it down not to tight or it breaks the fan.Put the case together and you are done.

Get a can of compressed air and blow out the vents on the bottom and side of the laptop. The fan could just be out of balance with dust. It it still makes a noise afterward, the fan itself may be going out and need to be replaced.
