Hi when you reboot do you have to go into BIOS every time and alter some settings, or when you boot up, do you have reset the date and time every time, if so its possible this jumper is missing, however if not then the BIOS is working as it should be and the jumper is most likely there, however if not you can buy a replacement jumper from a supplier like RS or Radio Shack

If it still acts up, compare wiring of the large motherboard Molex connector to the original. Dell used a variant that does not interchange. The enable wire is in a different location from standard ATX location.If the processor is an AMD, remove cbattery and clear BIOS, and then try again.

Can you please describe what happens when you try to power on the system? Have you tried your system with a knwon-to-be-good power supply?

the problem is either from your battery or from the power Adapter. Borrow an adapter from a friend and test it with your laptop, if it does the same, then know of a truth that the problem is from the battery. Or test another battery with your laptop.

Secondly, remove the battery from the laptop, power the laptop with the adapter without the battery and observe if the power light will still blink.

The blinking power light is a power related problem and this has to be from either the battery or the power adapter.

Usually you have enough power to light LED lights, (Like the harddrive activity LED light for add-in cards, that you see on the motherboard), and spin fans, but Not enough power to turn the Processor on.

The Dimension 8400 comes with an ATX style of Power Supply, that has a maximum rated Wattage of 250 Watts.
1) ALL of the LED lights combined use less than 1 Watt of power.
2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts
3) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts.

Your Power Supply just has enough power to light that LED light.
Weak voltage power rail.
Replace the Power Supply.

You may have a Power Supply with these dimensions, and needed power cables, in an unused computer.
Perhaps someone has upgraded to a better computer, and has an unused computer that you can temporarily borrow the Power Supply for a test unit.

Make sure it has at least 250 Watts (Maximum rated wattage), plus,

This is caused by the touchpad zoom feature; when it is enabled, brushing the touchpad registers a pressing of the ctrl key. Disable touchpad zoom and this behavior should stop occurring.

Nope... That more likely ram and hard drive damage.. Change your memory and if it still goes bsod then change the harddrive

remove and replace the power supply, before it does more damage. It sounds like it's been spiked.

Just hope it hasn;t affected the motherboard as well.

A Blinking Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.
