Dell 942 carrier jam
This morning I replaced the cartridges in the Dell 942 printer, they jammed to the left which made a loud grinding noise and the cartridge jam error came on.
I solved the problem by turning the printer on with the top up which moved the cartridges to the right a little so I could reach back, push one down a little manually which freed them to move over to the middle.

Try looking on the bottom right side of your pc, near the clock to find the picture of the printer or Icon for the print Que. Sometimes you have to click on a little arrow in this area to open it up and view all available. Find the picture of the printer and right click with your mouse on top of it. choose all printers and this should bring up a list of documents which have failed to print. Find the document and click on it then choose "delete" until there are none left on the list. make sure you use the "all printers" choice and not just the one listed in the name of your printer to clear this que. if this does not work, let me know by using the comment or reply links next to your question on Fixya and I will send more troubleshooting instructions.

The printer doesn't feed the paper in evenly,
>>Sounds as if the rollers have either dried out, or gummed up in spots causing unequal draw down.
Try one page at a time to see if it will pull down and print.
>>Something is blocking the rollers that feed the paper into the printer. Inspect the printer and free it from any blockage such as torn up paper resulting from a paper jam.

Your print heads most likely need to be cleaned.
When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will not disolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel(you should see the ink color on the towel). Retry.

Are the new cartridges from Dell?
I would try cleaning the contacts on the printer. Use a Q-tip and some isopropyl alchohol and clean the copper contacts where you cartridge plugs in. While your at it you might as well clean the copper contacts on the cartridge also. It is very common that Dell cartridges have this error. If that doesn't work send them back to Dell. PARTS LOOSE INSIDE HOW DO TAKE IT APART WITH OUT
You don't. Dell printers are made to be disposable. Nicer machines can be worked on limitedly but really all consumer grade ink printers are disposable. Sad I know. I would reccomend staying away from Dell, Lexmark, IBM and Kodak as they are all made by Lexmark. Generally not the highest quality machines with expensive ink. New Canon machines that take the CLI-221 cartridges are very nice along with most new HPs.
