Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable acer extensa 542
Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy disk
* CD/DVD optical device
* disk-drive
* external CD/DVD
* USB memory stick
* PXE ("Pre eXecution Environment)
To use PXE, you need "media" -- a network cable connecting yur computer to a "boot-server". The "media test faiure, check cable" reports that no network-cable exists, or that it does exist WITHOUT being connected to a boot-server.
Probably, your computer failed to boot from a DEAD disk-drive, and then tried floppy/CD/USB before checking PXE.
Replace the disk-drive.

I have compaq presario 700
It probably is OVERHEATING, and shutting-down to prevent heat-related damage. Check that the fan(s) is/are working.

Acer aspire d257 pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable error
Your computer tries to "boot" (start-up) from several devices:
* floppy-disk (if installed)
* disk-drive (if not "dead"),
* CD/DVD optical device (if "bootable" media has been loaded)
* PXE --> Pre-Execution Environment -- checks if there is a connection between the network-adapter on your computer to a "boot-server" on your local network -- it can load Windows from that "boot-server".
The "media-test failure" indicates that there is no network-cable attached to your computer *AND* the other-end of the network-cable is *NOT* connected to the "boot-server". So, you can that "error" message.
Is your disk-drive "dead" ????

OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND
If your computer cannot access the disk-drive, or if the Operating System on the disk cannot be loaded, then your computer will try to boot from an "alternative" device, namely your CD/DVD drive, assuming that a "bootable" disk (such as Windows 7) has been loaded into the optical drive.
So, first, check that your disk-drive is "detected" and then "working".

Dvd player and Cd player does not work
This procedure is to be used as last resort. This is for software issues dealing with the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. This procedure is designed to fix issues after removing Roxio Easy CD Creator but it may help other issues also. This procedure can fix an issue but can also cause issues, so don't use it till last resort before doing a re-install.

Try clearing the CMOS. That might clear the password for you.

Same problem
This is likely to be as a result of your processor over-heating, maybe because of your environment, or because the fan is not cooling the processor properly again. Therefore my suggestion would be for you to unscrew your laptop (If you can do it by yourself), and try to clean, or better still replace your processor fan.
If you cant do it by yourself, you can easily get a technician to do it for you.
I have actually had the same case before, and after doing what I've just told you, it stopped behaving like that.
And you are also still very lucky, because after a while, if the case worsens, the system will not just get stuck, but it will power-off automatically.
Then always make sure that your laptop is in a well ventilated, cool environment and that the environment is free from dusts.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

PXE-E61
Your disk-drive has failed.
So, your computer tried to boot itself over the Ethernet network,
by "broadcasting" a request for booting. When either the network-cable was _NOT_ connected, or when _NO_ computer responded to the "broadcast" message, you get "PXE: media failure".
Take your computer to a qualified technician,
to remove the "dead" disk-drive,
to replace the disk-drive,
and to reinstall Windows.

Cq61 will not power up light flashes 3 times
In case somebody has the same problem. Result of my investigation:
* If everything is ok then the Presario CQ61 boots without battery.
* HP support recommends to do a hard reset i.e. remove power supply, remove battery, press power button to discharge everything internally, connect power, press power button
In my case the problem was solved by changing the AC Adapter (Power supply).
Note: The led besides the power connector is not reliable. It is on with the working and faulty adapter.
Note: The voltage level at the battery pins is not reliable. I had same values.
