I have this printer for a while and I was very happy with it. A couple of days ago the black ink stopped printing and now I can only print in color. I havent changed anything in the setting or in the printer it seems to happened without no reason. Did it happened to anyone else? is there a solution or do I have to buy a new printer???
I had the same problem I found this solution to be very effective: * Buy alcohol solution (70% or more). You can find it in any drug store. * Remove both cartridges from the printer head. Unplug the printer head from the printer body. Pour the alcohol into paper towel layer. * put the printer head on the top of wet towel with the face of HEAD touching the towel. * clean the head with the towel and get rid of all the built-up ink on the head. * Pour the alcohol into the printer head container (ink-receptacle area is where the ink cartridge normally sits, notice a small hole where the ink flow into the printer). Do not touch any electronic parts and let it dry over night. * Do step 2-5 again if necessary. * Install the cartridge back to the printer and run several head cleaning maintenance, print nozzle check, make sure to repeat this step until no more dead nozzle shown. It worked for me :0)

I refilled the black cartridge and the printer seems to resent it! Kept sending "low ink" message, but I could override that (there was a 'print anyweay' option). But now I'm getting message U130: "remaining level of ink cannot be correctly detected." And I can't find out how to override it. Must I forever pay ruinous prices for Canon cartridges?
Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.

Hi - I loaded new cartridges 12mths ago and did not use. Today I set it up again only to find that when I print it will print the background graphics (in colour) nicely but will not print ant text? I then replaced the old black cartridges ((6 and 3e BK) and it made no difference.
I cannot print any black text?
Appreciate your help.
thanks Pieter
All the people in this forum with a Canon ink printer not printing
black, especially if you tried replacing the print head and still have
the same problem.
Your purge unit/capping assembly is most likely clogged. This can be
caused by using crappy ink cartridges and by not using the printer for
exptemely long periods of time.
You will have to disassemble the printer. First open the lid so the
print head moves into the centre of travel. Unplug the power cord.
Remove the upper case (can be hard to do, usually they're
snap-together).
Remove one screw on either side of the print engine and remove the
engine from the lower case. Unplug the cables that go from the main
board to the purge unit (the large black assembly covered with old ink,
located on the right side of the printer where the head usually would
stop after you've finished using the printer and shut it off).
Now you have to remove that black purge unit from the right side of the
engine. Usually there are two screws holding it in place.
Give the unit a bath, carefully removing old ink from everything so the
unit looks like new. (be sure to remove the one motor first or you will
ruin the motor). Check the bottom and make sure the two small clear
rubber tubes are not clogged with old ink. Clean the absorber off (the
pad in the lower case) if it has ink piled into a small hill shape.
If the tubes look like they might be clogged, you'll have to find a way
to clear them out. I can do it in my shop, but it's too in depth to
explain.
Reassemble the printer, connect to a PC and do a few deep cleans and print out a test page. Problem solved.
Remember, if one colour is not working it's because the head is
clogged. You will have to do multiple cleans to get it to work. If it
still doesn't work, then either it's REALLY clogged or the purge unit
is not working because it's clogged. If you buy a new print head, then
the only thing left is the purge unit. Be brave and try the disassembly
and cleaning, or take it to your local service shop.
We charge $45 CDN for a job like this.
Rule of thumb: If you can get it fixed at a shop for 1/2 prince of a new unit, go for it.

By mistkae I bought 3E MYC installed and have been using them for about a month with no problems. Today the "WRONG CARTRIDGE" message started to flash and sheets feed through but nothing prints. I replaced the 3E MYC with 6MYC (all are OEMs), but it still says "WRONG CARTRIDGE" and does not show full tanks on the display. I have tried all the maintenance options...no luck. Is this a print head thing too?
PIXMA MP780 "WRONG CARTRIDGE" MESSAGE?
Here is what I did and it now works just fine.I turned off the printer and unplugged the power cord, and unplugged it from my computer. I then removed all the ink cartriges and removed the print Head I got some rubbing alcohol put it on some toilet paper and wiped down the back and bottom of the print head.Plugged everything back in and It now works better then ever.

Had this. Seem to have cured it with a new printhead (expensive!). I was able to get the printer to work for short periods by fiddling around and the print quality was fine. My question is, is there a way to disable or ignore this message so I could print anyway? I have cleaned up and stored the old printhead. Its possible to get into the Engineer Mode http://pixma.ulmb.com/?p=165/750-780.html but I don't have full details of all the instructions.
I have two Pixma 780's. After getting the "wrong cartridge" error one day when I turned it on, (I knew it was the right cartridge) I tried switching ink tanks, and the print head cartridge several times between the two printers. the problem followed the black print head cartridge, so I am guessing I need a new one. From that experience, I would recomend swithing the print cartridge if you get this error. Does anyone know how to do a reset on this machine? A Canon tech told me once, but I lost the info.

we have canon pixma mp550 all-in-one we have error cod b200
The B200 error is "Printhead Temperature exceeded", What this means that while you were printing some document, either one or more of the printhead ink wells ran out of ink and the printing continued. Printing without ink in the wells will overheat the nozzles and can potentially burn the out.
If the error will not go away once you have unplugged the printer for at least 5 minutes, then there is the possibility that you have already burnt out the head. Remove the printhead and use a 5x magnification glass to look VERY CLOSE at all of the nozzles to see if you can detect any possible burnt out nozzle. If there are the a new head is mandatory. Just be sure it's worth it - a new printer might be cheaper.

My scanner on my printer isn't scanning the whole page, it separates it into different pictures so I end up with 7 images of different parts of the page when what i want is it to scan the whole picture as a whole!! How do I solve this??
Your printer software is doing image detection.
Please dont forget to vote if you liked my answer thanks
You need to adjust setting on scan so it scans page and image detection is off.

paper jam how do I get all the paper out
I took Ekse suggestion to start off with by turning off the printer; opening the front cover and removing the ink cartridges. Behind where the color cartridge goes is a light blue wheel. I took a letter opener and gently tried to move it. It moved and after a few turns it loosened the paper and I was able to gently removed the whole sheet of paper. I'm by far a techy but have been known to take care of paper jams. This little machine had me baffled because the back was of no use like other machines.
