Did you try a test print. Most printers have a option to set the ink color, this is done when your computer asks you if you want to print. Look for an options tab and search for ink color options pick black only and try a test print. The test print is done on printer set up. If all else fails try the manual it usually has a troubleshoot section. Oh yes make sure you have the correct usb port some are configured at a lower level ( mine has 2 different ones a 2.0 and a 3.0 the 3.0 is blue when you look inside of it) my 2.0 port wouldn't set up my printer I had to use the 3.0 port. Seems to me that deposit of wasted ink is full. Try w/ a Quill tip o fabric clean excess of ink in the waste compartment (gently). Also cean the brushes.

If the line is vertical on the print this is most likly not a print head issue. I would be more inclined to think there is a physical contaminant that might be "scoring" the print or scraping of the ink as the photo leaves the printer. Hold the print at an angle and shine a light on it to see if there is a difference to the surface of the print. Investigate the printer for obstructions and contamination. Pay particular attention to the feed mechanism.

Run a self clean on the printer a jet may be clogged. print a test page to see if problem persists. If ink is low put a piece of electrical tape over the sensor of the ink cartridge and try again.Hope this helps!
