The printer is giving me a message to check

try these steps to fix the problem:
Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter
1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
By pressing Menu Copy Copy Copy Scan
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [Set] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

My canon MP730 printer went

This is rather "ancient" model as printers go, it come on the market in 2002. It is still available, this meant Canon done something ok with it...

You done everything what is available for home/small office user. I will try to help you solve this problem, but seem like motherboard on this printer is on the way out.

Please follow this procedure:

1. download and install ccleaner for all users, do not install yahoo or any other bar! I hate all bars with passion!
2. disconnect USB cable from your printer (or computer - whichever is easy)
3. uninstall all printer related programs and delete printer from printer folrder
4. switch off computer and wait 20sec
5. switch computer on and run it in safe mode (taping f8 during boot-up will allow you this selection) as an administrator
6. run ccleaner, as last run registry clean
7. restart computer in "normal" mode
8. install your freshly downloaded printer software and when ask, connect USB cable.

Simple removal of the printer and re-installation do not work as Windows have nasty habit of hiding old files adn re-use them even if you supply new ones.

If printer do not respond to this installation, to verify that this is a problem, try to install it on another computer. If it works on another computer, then you have something installed on this computer which prevent you from correct installation of the printer.

If that is the case - disconnect you rcomputer from network, disbale firewall and antivirus, then run ccleaner and clean everything what you do not need, go to tools and remove any program which you do not use or need, check your boot sector and disable all junk loading on the bootaup, be it any messanger, itunes, adobe or whatever installed itself there but it is not essential to run the computer. Run ccleaner again, then re-boot in safe mode and run ccleaner again, including registry.

Repeat steps 2 to 8 from above. but with disabled antivirus and firewall.

If your computer still will not see the printer, change usb port.

Hope this short advice will solve your problem, please let me know if it worked, canon unfortunately do not provide firmware flush options for home users.

I have a canon mp730

Many times , if we use refilled ink cartridge , then also we might get such error messages on the printer display .
Ensure that you are using genuine Canon ink cartridges.. but if the error is after changing to a new set of genuine ink cartridges..
try by cleaning the electrical contacts of both ink cartridge and the printer.. and also do a semi full reset..

Display shows "wrong cartridge".

Hello,

To remove the printhead, follow the below procedures:

1. Remove all the ink cartridges.
2. lean the print head towards the front of the printer.
3. Raise the print head out.

Note: the printhead is the device that the ink sits on, not "in". It's the piece with all the foam recepticles.

Additional Information:

In case the message ("wrong cartridge") that displays on your printer is a error, you can follow the below steps in order to clear the error:

1.With printer OFF press and hold resume
2.while holding it down push and hold Power button
3.Release resume whilst still holding down power, the light should be green (not flashing)
4.Push resume once (orange) twice (Green)and a third time (orange)
5.release power button.
6.Then power it off and on again after it's finished making any noises and settled down.

Printer will not print. I bought a new cable and

the driver is installed? you installed the software before ever plugging the printer into the pc right? right click on my computer then go to manage then services & apps then services and see if the printer services are running and the print spooler

Wrong Cartridge

Hi


Thanks for using FixYa. As you have already cleaned the printhead contacts and reset it then it means that the print head itself has gone bad and required to be replaced. However, before replacing the printhead please check that the waste ink tank is not full. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT SAYS WRONG CARTRIDGE

I have not had this problem, and that says a lot. I now have 3 of these and I think it has been around ten years I have used them, burned out 3 and got 3 more. These are the most economical printers I know of at $1.69 per cartridge.

My guess is it is a contact problem, the contacts between your print head and the carriage, or it is the printhead itself. I would do what I have posted today regarding printing. The fact that you have ink in your cartridges has nothing to do with this problem, as ink is dry would be the message.

Canon MP730 Paper feed is not working correctly

There are two feeders on this MP730. There is the sheet feeder on top and there is the paper feeder on the back. You can have problems with both.

The sheet feeder on top.
If the problem is things go through somewhat sideways, and if this is the problem, stuff some postit notes between the back grey thing and the feeder tray to eliminate this problem. Add or subtract to the wad to make it right.

If the problem is it does not grip the sheet, what I used to do is to help it through by one sheet at a time, painful. I got frustrated with this so for scanning, I have a Snap Scan 1500, which is faster and better.

The paper feeder.
A small piece of paper left in the paper infeed path can cause a major problem. You cannot have anything in the paper path that will skew the paper, so you must get any little bit of restriction out of there.
As the printer gets older, you will have to produce your own guides to prevent this skewing, as the guides on the printer do not do this well. I use clamps and wooden guides to keep things in line.

Canon Multipass MP730...placed new ink cartridge

For me, there can be 3 problems, and I will do what I do in order.

1. The print head may be clogged. To unclog it, you have to remove the 4 cartridges, remove the print head (lever up, and remove the printhead), run those silvery things under a luke warm tap and low flow and pressure for about 5 minutes or until no ink drips out, and dont aim for those silvery things, do not touch the contacts on the back. Install the printhead, cartidges, lever down and go for it.

2. Well still no results... Get the printhead out of there again as your machine is getting old and tarnished. Get a sharp knife. Stroke down on those contact things downward only with your knife, a couple of columns at a time, couple of strokes per column. Put everything back, lever down, and go for it.

3. A new print head $50. Sounds a lot, but the last cartridges were $1.69 a pop. These cartidges last quite some time, as long as you fire something through the printer each week. This has to be the most economical bubble jet printer in the world. I have 3 of them.

try the usb port with another cord if it does not work, then it is probably you change the usb port.

WRONG CARTRIDGE

Press the reset button if they can correct that problem. Maybe you can used the not genuine cartridge on your printer or it could be not properly inserted your cartridge. Try to power off the printer and check your cartridge then power on it again.

Alarm light on, says wrong cartridge, but they are

take out the cart and clean the contact.. the part where the cart touches the printer.. check if it's contaminated with ink.. just wipe it with tissue and make sure the cart holder in the printer is clean as well.. pls switch OFF the printer while cleaning.

My ink catridges became unseated

This happens once in a while.
Do this. In order to avoid damage to the tracking mechanism. make sure the power is disconnected, open the lid as if you are going to replace a cartridge, then with something strong and thin - a 6inch steel rule is probably the best - slide it into the parking area on top of the ink carriage. As you slide it in you may feel the loose cartrige. With a bit of jiggery-pokery (and some luck) you should be able to get the rule above the offending cartridge so that you can press it back down into place - you should hear it click.
Withdraw the ruler and reconnect the power and see what happens.
I've only seen this happen where 'compatible' cartridges have been used - it rarely happens with genuine carts (I think I've only seen it once or twice).

You can easily to refill it only one time.If itself open cartridge and hole top of the cartridge push refill ink and close tide and tide.First time clean cartridge OEM software by printer default.
