You may not see a paper jam.
This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you.
Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there. And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it. Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell AIO A940 printer that wouldn't print black ink.
It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).
PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY
I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.
I have had the same issue with my iP90. I think this results from the black ink nozzle becoming clogged. I was able to get mine to print by cleaning the nozzles. To clean the print nozzles open the Canon IJ Printer Utility, select the printer from the list of available printers and click the maintenance button. Then, select a cleaning or deep cleaning cycle.
I had the same problem. It turned out my printer was set to print on the "Canon Fax" printer rather than the regular Canon printer. So I changed the printer on the print box screen and was able to print as usual.
